As my title implies, I find it very odd that there’s no option to buy a single issue in the app without a subscription first. I’ve been reading the physical only a short while and very much enjoy it and I was hoping to sample more via the app before committing to an expensive (for me anyway) subscription. A free trial would be excellent but I can understand why that may be problematic. However, not being able to buy issues as individual purchases is hindering the app quite a bit.
I have been a subscriber to this magazine for well over a decade. I recently changed to the tablet version as I decided become a little more environmentally friendly. The presentation is visually excellent and is every bit as good as the print version. The only problem is navigation. I find it deeply frustrating as the model used simply does not work well on an iPad. The navigation pane spanning the left part of the screen leaves much to be desired as it gets truncated. When there is a major feature I end up seeing the same caption for multiple articles. If I was to suggest a better iPad layout, the New York Times is excellent. Not a show stopper, but a major niggle.
Disappointing. Was developed for iOS6/7. Awkward to read magazines.
A weekly collection of well curated short articles, that cheer me up while educating me. My favourite weekly read.
New Scientist has been part of my life for over 40 years ….. the app is brilliant …. Thoroughly recommended
After I stopped my subscription I tried to read past issues which I had bought and which I can no longer access without paying again. Robbery or fraud?
It’s good but could be better if these two things were included: 1. Ability to tap an article name on the magazine cover to take you to the article. 2. if when you played the magazine on Bluetooth it didn’t default to previously played articles from an earlier issue.
I love new scientist. It provides me with all the latest science news, and explains it all in a comprehensive way.
Brilliant and interesting to read all these facts. I can’t think of anywhere else where I could do this. I find it fascinating!!
