Excellent RSS news reader, I have been using this application for a long time now and it suits my needs perfectly. Developer keeps the application updated and love the fact that no subscriptions are involved. Very fast feedback from developer. 5 stars all the way 👍 iOS 11 has stopped watch Force Touch which means now unable to update news from watch. Developer says update on the way.
Fantastic app. I have it on Mac, iPhone, Apple Watch Ultra and Apple TV and it works great across all of these. Layout wise it offers a fairly standard RSS Reader UI and is ever so slightly less polished than other popular RSS readers. However, sync is faultless and the Reader view that downloads and allows reading of full articles is essential. What initially caught my eye is it is one of the few RSS readers that offer a Watch app, which is perfectly readable on the larger Watch screens. The TV app is really great too. I’m glad it’s not a subscription based service, and would’ve paid more for this app. Recommended.
I’ve been using RSS since the early 2000’s, on many platforms (even developing my own online aggregator/reader at one point), and News Explorer is the best I’ve ever used. I find using it to be the fastest way stay up-to-date with the websites, Youtube channels and blogs that I follow.
Way back when, I started with Google Reader, and I’ve stuck with RSS through many apps, and now I’m using News Explorer, and everything’s fine. It just works, which is all an app needs to do. But there is one thing it needs, and that is filtering. I will gladly pay a subscription, if I can just have filtering by keywords in an article’s title. Not seeing “Prime Day” or “World Cup” ever again would be so worth it.
This app is pretty much the perfect news reader for me, I use it daily on iPad and iPhone. The UI is smooth and intuitive on both screen sizes, and syncing privately through iCloud is a great use of that service. I can’t think of a single thing that would make it better!
Excellent news app, packed with features and well designed. Using this now instead of the stock news app, which is seriously irritating with the constant plugging of News+. Only thing missing, which apparently is in development, is a means to filter topics, as well as sources. Highly recommend.
Having been an avid RSS user since forever I’ve tried a lot of different software but had been stuck on Reeder the last few years. Then on attempting to do some newsreading on my Apple Watch I came across News Explorer and ponied up. It gets 5 stars for flexibility - you can read on your Apple Watch and Apple TV! And there are lots of pleasing customisation options. But visually it doesn’t seem as well designed as Reeder. And I wish I could customise the font used in the main UI listing screens (you can in the actual articles). Or at least there should be some options as to weight of text. At moment it’s very heavy looking, which makes it feel a bit old fashioned. With a bit of a design spruce this would be the RSS king.
Rarely if ever do I write a review. Further, it is rare that I buy an app that I find truly useful in daily life (with the exception of OmniFocus), but this is impressive. A great and intuitive design brings all RSS and Twitter feeds together in a very accessible layout across (and in sync) all Apple devices. The best news reader I have used and is, in part, what Apple News should have been. If you enjoy browsing the news you will not be disappointed.
Definitely the best RSS client I’ve used. But can we please get automatic full text for articles? lire, another RSS application does this and it works well and without any user interaction. Whereas with News Explorer, you have to open the article and then click the icon in the toolbar. If this could be an option, that would be great thanks. Also, some images fail to appear/load while in full text/reader mode.
