### *---- "Over promises and under delivers"
Quite a common symptom of open source and free software. "it's free so we don't owe you anything" or "the code is out there so go and fix it yourself" or "we'll get to it when we get to it". HEIC support fir iPhone 15 Pro and later has been broken for months. They're waiting on another open source project managed by other people to fix stuff so it can be included in nextcloud. Of course since nobody is getting paid nobody can be fired and the chain of dependency continues to infinity. Last time I spend a single minute entertaining the idea of an open source and free solution for anything.

### ***-- "HEIC support still broken as of Oct 2024"
I setup a self hosted Nextcloud server at home and have been using this app to backup photos and videos on my iPhone the past few years to my server. The app and host software have been somewhat unreliable but work okay until they don't. Being "free" cloud storage that I manage, I'm willing to accept the eccentricities for the most part and have continued to use it the past free years, but I'm no software developer.

However recently I think with the iOS 17 or 18 update, HEIC support broke within nextcloud on the server side. You can still backup HEIC files, but you can no longer view them as photos via the app and preview thumbnails no longer generate. Seeing as HEIC is the standard format for millions of iOS devices out there I don't see why it's taken so long to fix. The nextcloud developers don't seem to be in any hurry to fix this issue. Not sure what else to do other than wait since I'm not a docker software developer and can't fix it myself.

This is fine for accessing files and moving one offs back and forth, however on my 2020 Intel Mac this program was completely different, and it was a client to sync folders, I grew accustom to having this ability, and with this updated app I can’t figure out how to do this, it functions exactly like the iPhone app. There are pros and cons to this. I would do without that just to have the automatic sync again.

I love Nextcloud, it’s awesome to be able to host my own files, I just miss having a Nextcloud folder that syncs within finder.

### **--- "Great app just a few issues"
Love using nextcloud although i am having a few issues 

 on older versions i could upload the whole camera roll but it seems to be trying to create an archive file to upload everything as one file and i have too much to do that…..

It seems i cannot add http, it will only allow me to add the https address I am hosting a local server and have no desire to buy a domain or anything else since its just for home backup use, but every time i click a video i get an “insecure site” warning and have to accept the certificate just for that one single viewing and no thumbnails will load on videos because of it.  
No background uploads, Not being able to bulk upload files from camera roll without being a single archived file And Not being able to see video thumbnails Kinda makes it a little unusable 

We also need some kind of automatically generated reduced quality thumbnails or something as load time on media previews is extremely slow…. i am using a pretty powerful server with a very fast drive and it takes forever to load media previews still and only does so when you go to the files and wait. 

This needs performance improvements, it is NOT good for bulk files in its current state, its great if you want to upload like 10-15 images / files or something but who is hosting an entire server to save 10 files

EDIT: 
The more i use it the worse it seems to be, it crashes much more often than it works, it fails to upload files randomly, reports it finished when it skipped files, it is very slow as stated above (there is no reason for with the hardware it is running on, it has 16 cores an nvme and a enterprise hdd.) it crashes when trying to access folders on anything but the app itself

It is completely unreliable and too buggy to even be considered functional…. 

We also don’t have any kind of real or reliable integration, once files are uploaded besides saving them back into files one by one or something, its just off your device, this kind of makes file management a real hassle since the app doesn’t work well. 

The file and thumbnail cache also seems to be linked so if you clear cache you have to wait forever for thumbnails again.

2 months ago my “auto backup” for photos had its naming convention set back to the app default which has messed up all the photo file names on the backup server.  Why?? Why can’t the default be the android like naming convention, which actually makes sense if the app is going to reset it without my permission??  YYYYMMDD_HHmmss. and be done!

The app has so much potential, but frequently crashes or freezes requiring rebooting the app. It could be so perfect if it would just work consistently but unfortunately it's been a pain to work with. Not a lot of alternative options for an open source self hosted service like this but it has a way to go to feel finished. Hope they get the bugs worked out, would love to bump this back to a 5 star review.

Nextcloud has made significant strides in user interface and functionality. The app is clean and efficient. However, to truly stand out, consider incorporating an Android Material Theme option or allowing users to customize app icons. This would make it even more appealing to a wider audience. Great work so far!

When accessing my server from the web it works fine! I go to upload a file and it’s as if the app has crashed. No progress bar for individual files just no response from the app it’s 50/50 whether my file was copied from my phone to my Nextcloud server or not. Having to tirelessly close and reopen to get files uploaded. Developer please look into this!

i only wish better handling of things when i'm offline.. Currently if i'm offline, i can't set file to upload and close the app, files won't show on server when i come online..

EDIT: 60 lock is stupid.. My touch id not worked and i was not able to do a pin unlock 😕
