NightCap Camera is a powerful app that takes amazing low light and night photos, videos and 4K time lapse. Long exposure produces beautiful photos in low light and unique Astronomy modes capture the stars, Northern Lights (Aurora) and more!
Do you find your photos and videos dark and grainy in low light? NightCap will help by unlocking the full potential of your iPhone or iPad's camera.
AI camera control makes it easy by automatically setting optimum focus and exposure for a brighter, clearer shot. All you need to do is hold steady and tap the shutter. If you prefer manual control then instant gesture based adjustment is always available, and special camera modes give you DSLR like results. You can even shoot photos, videos and time lapse in black and white if you want to.
Try Long Exposure mode for amazing motion blur effects and reduced image noise in low light. NightCap has an ISO Boost feature that allows 4x higher ISO than any other app, producing much brighter low light photos with low noise in Long Exposure mode!
Light Trails mode preserves moving lights - ideal for moving traffic at night, fireworks or light painting.
These modes are stunning when combined with HD or 4K time lapse!
There are 4 dedicated astrophotography camera modes. Stars Mode is ideal for a starry sky or Northern / Southern Lights (Aurora), or leave your device capturing in Star Trails Mode and watch the stars paint circles in the sky! There are also modes for easy photography of the International Space Station (ISS) and meteors (shooting stars).

NightCap Camera FAQ
Is NightCap Camera free?
NightCap Camera is not free (it costs 3.98), however it doesn't contain in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Is NightCap Camera legit?
🤔 The NightCap Camera app's quality is mixed. Some users are satisfied, while others report issues. Consider reading individual reviews for more context.
Tried it over 4 nights for chasing aurora with the tutorial given. My iPhone 12 camera night mode capture even light and better colours. However, this app is better is taking shots of the stars. I could do without it, but it’s not too expensive as an alternative.
Ultra wide night mode
It’s my only way of shooting night mode with the ultra wide lens. However it’s a hassle to have to enable the 3 second delay for night mode every time I open the app. Why does it not remember that I toggled that option on?

Nice app with a bug
Very good app. I managed to take nice pics with it. Few features I did not manage to make work yet but I guess I need to learn a bit more.
One bug though, when doing long pause exposure using the headset to start and stop, sometimes it seems somehow that I cannot use the headset anymore to stop it. This happened to me after a ~60 min exposure. I had to press the button on the phone to stop the exposure.
Disappointed
Hello, sir just now purchased but how come they deducted $ 10 from my account? Can you explain that and please kindly refund thank you
Interval programmer option does not function
I’m using this on my iPhone 7 Plus. It worked fine for the first few hundred or so shots. However, it suddenly stopped working (the interval programmer function) when I took it out for a night shot.
I reinstalled it a few times as reinstalling seemed to solve the issue-only for it to happen again.
May I ask if the next update can include a purely “manual” function? ( whereby users can opt out of the ‘AI cam’ setting.
Other than that, great app and would recommend this to any budding astrophotographers.
Produces great photos
As a user of an iPhone 4S, I am limited to an older version of the app on iOS 9.3.5. Despite that, the app produces great photos under low light, and can shoot in dark places where the stock Camera app captures a lot of blackness. Playing around with motion blur and light-painting is also fun. Overall, definitely worth the money spent.
Crazy-good app!
Can’t catch the bad guys in the act (at night) without this app. I’m well pleased with video and photos by it. Next bell/whistle/improvement why not make voice activated shutter?
Wow!
Terrible results! Running a brand new iPhone 15 Pro with iOS 18.0.1. I load the desired parameters and the app usually runs its own undesirable parameters with undesirable results! So far the app is undesirable…
Night Cap
Not allowing me to complete setting up the app. Telling me to allow access to photos, which has been done on me SE phone.
