I love the capability of the new learn feature! I am not sure if it is just because it is in the testing stages but it would be awesome if it would do more than 10 questions. But I absolutely love this app!
Loved it but used it too much and need to get he yearly subscription. Great for note taking for collage! Can be used offiline as well
Great app, has definitely made note taking and studying a lot easier. And the price isn’t bad either. However, it’d be really really nice to be able to mark a specific topic or formula in my notes and search for it via the search feature. 👉👈
When I first started using Notability, everything was great and now all of their little updates that are supposed to improve the app, have actually made it worse. why would you ever takeoff the clock when you go into the app especially when a lot of people are using this app to study. Why is Goodnotes advancing and notability gets worse and is more expensive?
I am a bio major now in veterinary school and have been using notability for a while now. It has its perks but I wouldn’t say they’re worth it. The write to text works well if you write slowly and if it actually knows the word you’re writing. I think it’s funny how the feature “convert drawing to text” can recognize when I am writing in capital letters but the “write to text” feature only occasionally will do it again if it knows of a word that has all capital letters and matches what you’re writing. if you’re taking any bio class above 101 then it probably will not recognize the words you are trying to say making the feature almost useless as it wastes your time trying to fix the clear word you are trying to write. Cannot understand the phrase amino acid and translates your handwriting to amino aid. Honestly it’s a program made for low level course but most people that I know use it are at a much higher education level. The program is either too complex for it to keep itself straight or it’s too simple for it to work. I repeatedly have to select then unselect then select for the automatic text box to appear and it sometimes does it and then stops after five other text boxes have been made. I think they need to redo that whole setup. Maybe a selection for automatic text boxes, another for just writing on the note without a text box, and then still keep the draw a textbox feature. They also are not able to rotate a singular sheet of paper horizontal unless it’s specifically a picture you took in that moment and inserted in as a pdf. Why can I not rotate one page out of the whole note??? Also why is it that when I draw an arrow the size of the head of the arrow stays the same while the tail gets skinnier and fatter?? It makes no sense. Also you know very many people use the and sign that looks like a fancy addition sign to mean & we shouldn’t have to draw this snake character for that to be understood. So many small things that could just elevate you guys to become the best note app out there and I’m doing this for free. Anyways reach out to me notability if you want my suggestions on how to make your decent app more user friendly to most of your users… if not then continue doing what you do
I’ve been using this app for over a decade now, and would rate it around 4 or 5 stars. With iPhone 16 and 18.1 update has AI writing tools that would proofread and rewrite your notes. This works with most of my apps, except for Notability.
In short: the premium subscription is really worth it if the tools provided are to your liking As of last year this is my only tool for digital note taking, be it for my studies or my personal journaling. The template selection is great and the ability to browse user-created templates with the premium subscription is a huge plus. That said, I do think there’s room for improvement, especially if this app intends to compete with apps like GoodNotes or Canva. Areas to improve: - Color slots: the app comes with 32 pre-selected colors for the different writing tools and it allows you to create 32 more custom colors. 32 color slots is far too limiting for someone looking to use this app for their journaling; doubling or even tripling these 32 custom slots would be highly beneficial, especially seeing as you cannot delete the pre-installed color swatches. - Pressure sensitivity: there aren’t nearly enough controls for pen pressure sensitivity; as a result, you best hope the ipad registers your strokes with a steady pulse lest you get squiggly and scraggly lines. I know that this in particular may turn away prospective new users because hand written documents or journals may not look as neat as with competitors’ products. - Toggling assets’ layer placement: the highlighter tool in specific will NOT layer over the pen tool. This is noticeable when you try to use the highlighter tool to create details on figures drawn with the pen tool. Being able to toggle assets forward or behind other assets would be amazing! - Opacity control: unlike many of the competitors, Notability LACKS the capacity to toggle the different writing tools’ opacity. I understand this may not be necessary with all tools, but allowing it on the highlighter pen tool would be bare minimum to improving the variety of tools on the app.
I’ve been a dedicated user of Notability since 2014, and it has been my go to for note taking due to its intuitive features and reliability. However, recent changes have left me extremely disappointed. Basic features that were once free are now locked behind a subscription. For instance, I was in the middle of writing a word when I suddenly reached a limit on the ‘number of edits’ I could make. To finish what I was working on, I was forced to pay a $15 yearly subscription. This shift makes it feel like the app is prioritizing profit over user experience. It’s disheartening to see a product I once loved become less accessible without paying for premium services. I hope the developers reconsider this shift and find a better balance between free and paid features.
It is awesome i love it so much
