Notebooks is a writing and organization app with no subscription, no lock-in, and no worries. Your documents are stored as standard files you can always access, export, or move freely. Pay once. Use for life. Use Notebooks as a personal wiki, Zettelkasten, document archive, task manager, or long-term writing space. Capture quick notes, turn them into actionable tasks, combine text fragments into chapters, organize research, or keep business documents separate from personal journals — without ever switching apps. Designed to help you stay focused and work at your own pace, Notebooks grows with your needs and is always ready to support you. WRITE AND CREATE Create beautifully formatted documents with styles, attachments, tables, checklists, and optional tables of contents. Choose from ready-made styles or design your own. Write in different ways: Formatted text (WYSIWYG) Plain text, with smart handling of lists, automatic character pairing, and a focused writing view Markdown, supporting MultiMarkdown and Discount, with syntax highlighting, dedicated keyboard keys, wiki-style links, and interactive checklists Sketch ideas or annotate images and PDFs using Apple Pencil. STORE AND ORGANIZE Notebooks stores all documents as regular files in standard formats. You always remain in control — no lock-in, no export worries, fully compatible across devices and over time. Organize your work in books and nested hierarchies without limits. Import PDFs, emails, web pages, MS Office and iWork documents, images, audio, video, and more. Use full-text search to find even the most deeply nested document. PLAN AND ACT Turn books into project lists and documents into tasks. Assign due dates and alerts, create nested projects, and track progress naturally — right where your work lives. Use simple checklists in formatted documents or Markdown for lightweight task tracking. STAY FOCUSED Link documents together to build knowledge over time. Use wiki-style links, backlinks, contexts, and smart books to keep everything connected and within reach. When you rename or move documents, links stay intact. A PLACE YOU CAN RELY ON Sync your documents between iPhone, iPad, Mac, and PC. Work on documents stored in other apps, compile selections into PDFs or eBooks, scan documents and extract text using OCR, and trust that your data stays accessible — now and in the future. With time, Notebooks often becomes the one place users rely on to keep everything that matters close at hand. WHAT USERS SAY “Notebooks is a wonderful app — sophisticated in an unassuming way. I feel more productive without spending time managing the app itself.” “You are GTD in every way that makes it efficient — and makes me efficient.” ## Notebooks Screenshots - [Screenshot 1](https://is1-ssl.mzstatic.com/image/thumb/PurpleSource211/v4/8a/e9/87/8ae9873d-7282-7c1e-0051-983a3d2bcd6c/01_Screen_-_en.jpg/1284x2778.png) - [Screenshot 2](https://is1-ssl.mzstatic.com/image/thumb/PurpleSource221/v4/db/b7/75/dbb7753a-e62d-5801-1a67-cfb248214fc7/02_Screen_-_en.jpg/1284x2778.png) - [Screenshot 3](https://is1-ssl.mzstatic.com/image/thumb/PurpleSource221/v4/da/a8/50/daa8506e-0b60-9830-fa87-b9b8df391ec0/03_Screen_-_en.jpg/1284x2778.png) - [Screenshot 4](https://is1-ssl.mzstatic.com/image/thumb/PurpleSource211/v4/9c/82/ed/9c82ede5-e974-412a-b866-ffb1f25e5b60/04_Screen_-_en.jpg/1284x2778.png) - [Screenshot 5](https://is1-ssl.mzstatic.com/image/thumb/PurpleSource221/v4/48/8d/6b/488d6b06-dfec-c07c-34b4-d1b6f9bc9287/05_Screen_-_en.jpg/1284x2778.png) - [Screenshot 6](https://is1-ssl.mzstatic.com/image/thumb/PurpleSource211/v4/09/f3/53/09f35343-9921-ba0d-5d82-7fe3f17585fd/06_Screen_-_en.jpg/1284x2778.png) - [Screenshot 7](https://is1-ssl.mzstatic.com/image/thumb/PurpleSource221/v4/da/fb/5c/dafb5c1b-5ef1-6a47-5d7e-0bd10cc31fcf/08_Screen_-_en.jpg/1284x2778.png) ## Notebooks Rating Breakdown in United States - 5 stars: 896 (84%) - 4 stars: 106 (10%) - 3 stars: 29 (3%) - 2 stars: 14 (1%) - 1 stars: 21 (2%) ## Notebooks Reviews in United States ### ***** "Great Writing App" I really enjoy this app, I use it every day. -- psalmist7, 2024-12-27 ### ***** "Very responsive developer" Returning to this app. Very Attractive. Like that it syncs through iCloud. Initial problem quickly fixed by developer. -- Hope'n'change, 2024-12-18 ### **--- "You reintroduced bugs" You delete negative reviews. You have no idea how to ‘library’ software and version control. Again, you brought back the defect where a paragraph immediately followed on the next line by a hyphen, then when saved, that paragraph changes to all bold font. And for the brief time that your app worked properly, it also loaded a lot faster. Now it’s back to go do something while it’s loading. So we’ll see if you delete this review too. -- Eriptron, 2024-12-15 ### ****- "Pretty good Notes app" I've been using it over the years for various writing projects. However, the formatting leaves a lot to be desired. OK--found increase font size under Settings. Overall it's a handy app; however, I don't use nor understand Markdown and the UI is just confusing. Not my go-to Notes app; I use Apple Notes or Craft. I do like this one to open up and view Web Archives. -- BAR112, 2024-11-08 ### ****- "Not working on new ios" this version is not open in the new version of iOS -- moon28682868, 2024-10-28 ### *---- "It doesn’t sync anymore!" Please fix the sync feature! It just started timing out whenever I try to sync. Nothing is wrong otherwise. If you can’t fix this, please refund my money. -- Reader1718, 2024-10-20 ### ***** "Have used daily for years" I’ve been using Notebooks for years. It is the perfect app for taking a variety of different kinds of notes and maintaining documents. It is a solid, bug-free app with Dropbox support (important for me for backups), most importantly with no required subscription! I keep a camping todo list, lists of movies and tv shows I want to see, gift ideas, and many categories of ideas that pop into my head… I get a good idea, I pop out notebooks and write the idea in a short note in one of the nested folders for whatever the category is that I want to remember something. I don’t do a ton of app reviews but my phone just asked for one, and this is one of the few apps I use where I feel a good review is actually “owed” to the developer for such a quality product that I use daily for years ;) I opened this review request in the middle of writing a note, so I better get back to it before I forget what I wanted to record and remember. -- Tomnovint, 2024-08-22 ### ***** "Great app!" I used this on and off for a year or so but it’s now become my go to app for everything. There was a little learning curve at the start but overall this does way more than any other notebook app I’ve ever used and is incredibly fast and efficient at handling a large amount of notes and file types. I really enjoy the WiFi sync option since I didn’t want to pay for iCloud storage, and some features that I’ve never seen in other places like the ability to easily crate an an ebook have come in handy. The one issue I had with a larger file I got a prompt response from the developer that helped me resolve the issue. Looking forward to using it for years to come and seeing what new features will be added ! -- Poetryworks, 2024-08-09 ### ***-- "-different colors" Please offer the feature of having different color words ON THE SAME PAGE. When I change the color, it changes the whole page. I would like to have One line in black, one line in red, one line blue, etc. . . . . -- cutter 2, 2024-06-09 ### ***** "Awesome Notebook App" It does everything really, really well…. I’ve been using it for many years. The developers are wonderful also. When my phone died recently, they helped me recover my old data. Truly awesome. -- Liberty2001, 2024-06-09 [View all Notebooks reviews and detailed analytics on AppTail](https://app.apptail.io/signup?utm_campaign=ai-crawl&utm_content=reviews) ## Notebooks In-App Purchases | Item | Price | |------|-------| | Custom Storage Locations | $2.99 | | Generous Tip | $4.99 | | Medium Tip | $2.99 | | Small Tip | $0.99 | ## Notebooks Store Rankings | Chart | Country | Category | Rank | |-------|---------|----------|------| | Top Paid | Germany | Productivity | #133 | | Top Paid | United States | Productivity | #140 | | Top Paid | Austria | Productivity | #153 | | Top Paid | Belarus | Productivity | #157 | | Top Paid | Switzerland | Productivity | #191 | | Top Paid | Finland | Productivity | #206 | | Top Paid | Portugal | Productivity | #214 | | Top Paid | Greece | Productivity | #225 | | Top Paid | Singapore | Productivity | #233 | | Top Paid | Poland | Productivity | #237 | | Top Paid | India | Productivity | #238 | | Top Paid | New Zealand | Productivity | #241 | | Top Paid | France | Productivity | #248 | ## Notebooks Discovered Keywords -
