The NSW WeedWise app provides key information to help users reduce the impact of weeds in New South Wales (NSW). The app profiles over 300 weeds, describing biosecurity duties under the NSW Biosecurity Act 2015, control information and registered herbicide options.
Users, ranging from home gardeners and residents to farmers, land managers and weeds professionals, can search or browse weed names (common or scientific); recognise a weed by its physical description and image gallery; and find out about its impacts, where it occurs, how it spreads and its preferred habitat.
It is important to understand the biosecurity duties associated with plants that pose weed risks in NSW and users can view the state and regional priorities for each weed under the NSW Biosecurity Act 2015, listed by Local Land Services regions.
Control options are described for each weed and the herbicides registered for its control by the Australian Pesticide and Veterinary Medicines Authority are listed, including application rates and techniques, and any minor-use permits that must be complied with.
Features include:
User type - users experience different functions within the app depending on whether they are landholders/residents or weeds professionals.
Landholders/residents can enter the contact details of their local council weeds officer, and then directly report sightings of state priority weeds via email or SMS.
Weeds professionals can share information about a weed with clients via email or SMS, including a weed's profile, biosecurity duties, control advice and herbicide options.
NSW WeedWise incorporates the content contained in the Noxious & Environmental Weed Control Handbook, a free, biennial publication from NSW Department of Primary Industries.
NSW WeedWise was developed with the assistance of the NSW Weeds Action Program.
You have to know what the weed is before looking it up. There are no filters options to narrow a search e.g. ground cover, blue flower etc.
Also the picture library of the weeds featured is quite limited.
Good info on each species is included but don’t expect the app to make it easy to search for and identify a weed
It’s ok
Interface is good, search tool is good, but the pictures are to low in resolution to see anything more that green blobs, we need multiple pictures for each weed, I.e. the whole plant, the actual leaves in same scale as if you were looking in person. It’s also missing Capeweed, this weed basically covers all public places and most yards in the Newcastle area.
Such a handy App!
This App is so handy. I use it all the time to find out the most up to date information about weeds and their control. If anyone asks me about weeds, I tell them they should get this App.
Love the update
New version is great. Less bugs and a much better look
needs update for ios14
will not run in ios 14
I’d give it 0 stars if possible
Not a single weed in my yard (and I’ve got a lot) or in the spare block next to me are in these lists, I tried searching their scientific name, common name, scrolled through the lists and nothing.
Here are some that I’ve identified that aren’t in the app:
Purslane/Portuluca - not there.
Summer grass (digitaria Sanguinalis) - not there.
Mallow (Malva Parviflora) not there.
Lamb’s tongue/plantain (plantago ianceolata) not there.
Cape weed (arctotheca calendula) not there.
I don’t recognise a single weed from the pictures on the app and I set my location to my exact city. Waste of time downloading
Great resource for farmers and gardeners alike
Very informative resource. Ability to search by region. Fantastic and extensive control methods. 100% recommend this ap.
Very useful
I use this tool often to search plant names and photos. Very useful.
Brilliant.
Very very helpful.
Comprehensive & functional
I was very impressed. Relevant serious weeds for favourite districts are easy to find. The app mimics the web page and information is available away from phone towers.
