Very insightful, and helps me to be aware of what is happening globally

I get why The Athletic is punted in the NYT. If you’ve paid $500m for something you have to monetize it. But, you are doing that at the expense of your NYT subscribers. I cannot tell you how frustrating it is to click on nearly every sports article in your main pages and come up against the Athletic paywall. It’s infuriating. I have worked out that in excess of 80% of your sports stories that come up on the main NYT page are now behind the Athletic paywall. You are alienating people. Make another plan!!!!

Glitchy!

I have had the app for almost a month and it has not allowed me past the newsletter setup section. Starting to feel like this is a waste of money.

Great app, until it locked out older phones

MZL333 on

I’ve just lost the use of my NYT app. The app is still there, and I’m still paying for a subscription, but when I open it it says I have to update to use it. And when I try to update it says my iOS system is no longer supported. I deliberately use an older phone for environmental reasons but it is still supported by Apple. My old app worked; I don’t understand why I have to be locked out just because I can’t update.

Your charge a subscription and still have ads? Every other app charges a subscription so you don’t have to deal with ads…

Blinking/Flashing Ads

here-to-read on

South Africa

I cannot be the only person whose reading (which is what a newspaper is for) is disturbed by the flashing/blinking/rapidly changing visual ads. Yes you have to sell ads, but do those ads have to put off people from actually reading the article?

Disreputable business practice

Ivan Overton on

South Africa

When subscribing through Apple on the “special offer”, they hook you in for a year, and then you can only cancel when the full price subscription for the next year kicks in. No way to cancel before then. This is not made clear when you take the special offer. What a con.

Not great

KirJol on

South Africa

No dark makes reading at night tough on the ice. The app is otherwise smooth and easy to navigate. The content is often good, although it is part of the western narrative machine. The most frustrating part, is that despite me paying for a subscription, I still see adverts. What’s the deal with that?

How do I delete this propaganda app!

Pups1028 on

Help! Get it off my App Store!!! 😭😭😭🤢🤢🤮🤮

Cancelling subscription is a nightmare

Pabloxyzxyz on

South Africa

What should be a single click ends up being phone calls on hold, a bot passing to next bot. Unbelievable. 15 m later and still not cancelled. Hard sell and blocking. And the primary way of cancelling is phoning!?!?
