I’ve TRIED THEM ALL

The map nut on

I have used ONX for over a year and after using other apps this is my first choice. The best thing about it is the newest update that rates each trail and road by using color coding. While using another app I was led unknowingly into a trail near Moab, Utah called Pritchett Canyon. This trail is WAY beyond my skill level and I was very lucky to get through uninjured. With ONX the same trail is clearly marked in red which tells me it is extreme. On the other app it was indicated exactly the same as the road I traveled on with my motorhome, so I had no way to know how extreme it was. This kind of mistake will never happen while using ONX. I am a happy user of ONX forever. The customer service is also great. They have a phone number on their site,(unlike most other apps), and you speak to a real person almost as soon as it rings. This is a great app well worth the money.

Poor CarPlay integration

W3irdWolf on

Would love the app but I need it to work better with CarPlay. Maps just flicker the whole time in onx when othe map apps work fine.

Single track

Been using it for about six months now getting to know it a lot to learn But I really like it

Definitely the best off roading app but…

Chris Tinker on

This is without a doubt the best app for off roading. I use it in my jeep through car play, my ATV, and my dirt bike. The ATV and dirt bike are where the solvable challenges arise. I’m happy seemingly the entire off road community has accepted to adopt this to keep refining. When on the dirt bike, I’m limited to a phone screen. Not an 8.4”+ vehicle double din in an air conditioned cabin out of the direct sunlight. Routing…. Keep it on the trails please? It’s an off road app. Why when I route to a waypoint/coordinates does it route me through some trails, then to a main road, then back on trails. When trails connect from A-B labeled in the app? I’m on a dirt bike. It’s not street legal. Can we get a checkbox to route on trails only or something like that? Like a “prefer trails for routing”. Why is the routing line a thin black one? Think about how hard that is to see when the sun is washing out your screen AND you have a bright, thick, red tracking line competing with your thin black routing line? Can we get the ability to change line colors to add more contrast? Or just disable the visual tracking breadcrumb line?(still need higher contrast routing line) Imagine a 100 degree day in direct sunlight in mountainous terrain on a dirt bike, wearing gloves, and navigating 10-30 miles following what’s on your phone screen because you have no idea where you are. 5 stars when that works perfectly. Currently it requires a lot of stopping, gloves off, zooming in and out, and resetting.

It does not let you unsubscribe once you do it. Be sure you really want it or it will not let you unsubscribe

Best map app for so many reasons

Woooooooooooo0 on

Granted if you want to see how many stars a restaurant got, this isn’t the map app for you. If you’re about to throw your side by side or dirt bike on a trailer and need a fun trail, this is the app. I’m a builder who likes to ride trails and it amazingly helps with both. Being able to see the private property lines and trails is so useful! Not to mention the ability to record details of your ride and scope out general difficulty. Recommend this (and the appropriate versions of this app) to outdoorsy trail riders, campers, hunters, and back country bombers. As long as this service stays this good, I’ll be a subscriber!

Accurate

Very nice singly the snap to drive features makes it easy to build a route

Waste of money

thomashansennc on

Sluggish, not very detailed. Google maps works much better. Onx hunting app works great, not sure what they did different for the off-road, but it’s not as good.

Bare minimum

whyatt1 on

It shows trails pretty well. But it doesn’t do much more. It will show campgrounds if you find them in the map, but you can’t save them or search for them. It’s hard to plan a trip with out being able to search and save stuff.

Florida beware

SRQMitch on

This is an awesome app! I have nothing bad to say about it. However (and it’s not the apps fault.), if you live in Florida I don’t recommend it. You’re better off sticking to those little local trails. There are really only about 10 locations in the state and I would argue at least 8 of them are nothing more then a dirt road in a state park. If you travel though, definitely worth it.
