Onyx: Pitch Pipe

Start off on the right note

Description

Start off on the right note every time with Onyx. This beautiful pitch pipe sports a three-octave range in C-C or F-F, with your choice of carefully crafted sounds: choose piano or clarinet to hear your note for several seconds, or switch to continuous playback mode* to loop strings or horns for as long as you like. Or, for pinpoint accuracy, use our custom sine wave generator instead and avoid those annoying loud pops that other apps can create. On iOS, all sounds can be tuned to your preferred frequency (due to technical limitations fine tuning is only available when using the Tone sound option on Apple Watch). Use the interactive widget and the watch app for instant access from just about anywhere. Onyx even works when your device is in silent mode, so you don't have to worry about embarrassing interruptions. That's our pitch, now find yours!
* Continuous playback mode is currently only supported within the app and cannot be used with the Today View widget or on Apple Watch.

Onyx Reviews

Widget is gone

Since the redesign the home screen widget options are gone. There is a lock screen widget, but it’s essentially just a shortcut to open the app. I wouldn’t have updated if I had realized this feature was going to be removed.

Doesn’t work on my iPhone 14 pro running iOS 16

Anyone who pays money for this app is a fool. Pitch please ran fine when I tried it immediately after buying it, but after I closed it and opened it again, I doesn’t make any sound. Please help!

Works about 5% of the time.

No matter what settings I have, volume up, mute switch off/on, DND, whatever - the pitch app rarely plays. It’s the only thing it does and the only reason I bought it and it doesn’t work. ForScore lost their pitch widget so I can’t use anything now.

Doesn’t work

Apple Watch app closes every time I try to use it. Could I have my 99 cents back please?

Doesn’t work — at all

No sound is produced. I can get sound from other apps just fine but nothing plays from this. The watch app produces sound but has no way to control volume so if you’re trying to discreetly get a pitch from your wrist it’s not at all discreet.

Where is the widget?

Based on past reviews, I just purchased this app specifically for the availability of a widget. Edited: It is a bit confusing because of the iOS 14 update, but I was eventually able to get the widget on my phone. I’m not sure how I did it, but it’s there now and I love the app! Maybe something could be included somewhere about how to get the widget?

Tuning

I’ve used this app for years and I love it, but I literally just noticed that the pitches are significantly flat when compared to a piano. I don’t know if it’s always been this way or it’s due to a recent update, but either way I can’t use this in my singing group of it’s not tuned closer to A 440. This is very disappointing and I hope you guys fix it!!!

Not reliable!

I needed it and it would not give a pitch. Bummed!

Meter please

chamon001 on

It needs a digital meter to know when you hit the note.

Puhlease get this app

efiord on

It works perfectly. It’s super easy. I probably would have bought it just for the name, which is awesome. It’s just like a pitch pipe in that you just rotate the dial or Digital Crown to access pitches...but doesn’t get gross or germy, not does it get out of tune. I’m a voice teacher and active choral musician.
