OS Maps Reviews

BE AWARE - does not cover Northern Ireland

dublin347 on

Ireland

This app is for GB only and totally misses out Northern Ireland. It’s not a UK wide app, only GB. Great app, but useless to me as a result and I didn’t realise this until after paying a months subscription as there is no warning of this face when you subscribe from within the app.

Recent update bad for offline usage

Spaceman Si on

Ireland

The recent update that makes you download any maps you already bought again makes them very difficult to use. When offline, it doesn’t display them well, or at all. It wants to only show the 1:25k maps when zoomed in, which is useless if you want to see the extent of your offline coverage, or zoom out to route plan. Back to just using the paper ones instead, this app has made downloading them pointless.

Very nearly brilliant but search functionality is poor

jamesdaniel on

United Kingdom

I’ve been a long time (and very happy) subscriber to and user of OS Maps. It’s nice to see that it’s added 3D functionality at last, and that’s probably indicative of where it sits in the marketplace; other apps may develop quicker and offer more bells and whistles, but when OS Maps does catch up those features normally perform well. But there’s a “but”, and it’s a big one for me - when researching places off the beaten track, the search functionality is woeful. Even for common places, performance is slow and suggestions unhelpful/inaccurate, and for more offbeat locations it lags massively behind something like OutDoors GPS. So, please, Ordnance Survey, improve this and you can have at least an extra star, or possibly two.

Now useless

Unable to plot5 a route since update, it’s gradually got worse on every single update!

December 2024 and the useful functions have ceased to operate.

When OS first put up an app it was useless. It later became quite useful even if a bit clunky. It has become useless again.

Great app to find new trails

Love this app places near home we never knew existed. Easy to use my go to navigation app for walking

Is this a new record?

mjj48 on

United Kingdom

This morning I opened the app in an area which is downloaded on my phone. I was simply shown a black screen with the position marker in the centre. This persisted for over TWELVE MINUTES before it changed to a blank white screen, followed a minute or two later by the map I had been waiting for! Are the developers really this incompetent, or are they just having a laugh at our expense?

Pretty good but could be better

Mr Useful Reviewer Man on

United Kingdom

The app works fine but it could be better. It could allow you to change the colour of your route. It could show the part you have done in solid lines and the part remaining in dotted lines. It could allow you to start circular walks at less popular places (than the "official" start) where it's easier to park and then deduce that you will walk around starting and ending there and calculating distance to go accordingly.

Update awful

What used to be a brilliant app is now useless
