## Oto: Tinnitus Relief & Therapy Description
The Oto app is the best way to manage tinnitus.

Founded by military doctors and world-leading tinnitus specialists, the Oto program will teach you to become unaware of your tinnitus and stop noticing it. If you do notice it, it won’t bother you.

It’s like when you fly on a plane. At first the sound of the engines is very loud. But after 10 minutes your brain tunes out the sound and you can read, watch TV or even go to sleep. You don’t notice the sound of the engines. 

This process is called habituation.

When you are habituated to your tinnitus it no longer has a impact on your life. You don’t think about it and it doesn’t make you feel bad.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The Oto app uses something called cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). CBT has been proven to be the best way to tune out tinnitus.

CBT is normally delivered by talking one on one with an audiologist or a psychologist.

Oto now recreates this experience.

Each day you listen to one or two audio sessions that use CBT and other therapeutic techniques. You work your way through a structured audio program that lasts approximately 3 months. 

The app then tells you to repeat and practice sessions from the program until you have tuned out your tinnitus.

HOW DO I START?

First, Oto will assess your tinnitus stage to then recommend a personalised plan for you. Habituation is when your brain no longer reacts negatively to tinnitus, so that you stop noticing it. Whatever your stage, we can help reduce the impact of your tinnitus.

DAILY GUIDANCE

You can listen to just 5-10 minute audio sessions each day which will introduce you to a range of clinically proven techniques. Over the course of the program, you’ll learn the tools and techniques that work best for you and your tinnitus. Gaining an understanding of these techniques can help to relieve your tinnitus impact. Through patience and commitment, you will learn how to tune out tinnitus.

### ***** "Not Really About Tinnitus"
This app is certainly fine.  It has a variety of sounds.  I use it a supplement to a Neo Sensory band to overcome tinnitus stimulus.  The sounds are just that.  The CBT is equal to mindfullness.  All fine. However, the app suggests it can provide tangible results.  It does not.  Talking folks to shrink their ringing into a small ball in a box is quite ridiculous.  80$ is a lot for this type of advice.  As a ED RN, as a medical professional I find  this is disappointing as an app that promotes a solution.  Sorry folks.

### *---- "Shrieking birds"
I was so hopeful but the background sound of birds shrieking is extremely jarring and makes it impossible for me to focus . The instructions say to tap the “t” button to change the background sound but there is no “t” button. I sent a message and they responded by asking if I want to know what CBT is. Right now the app is not much use to me if it’s going to screech at me while I’m trying to learn in a relaxed state.

Update: we’ll I figured out how to stop the bird sounds but the instructions on the app are out of date. If the developers can’t be bothered to update their help section, that’s not a good sign.

I continued to use the app for about a week. It’s really just a recording of a woman telling you to breathe through your nose and exhale through your mouth and telling you to close your eyes and imagine your problems floating on a leaf in a river. The developers got $15 from me for this and I think they should be ashamed of abusing and taking advantage of desperate people like this.
