I had high hopes for Outline - I wanted to keep my Onenote information locally (in my iCloud) instead of in Onedrive. Great idea for implementation, nice user interface, but synching is s..l…o….w…. and it eats battery life on both an iPhone and iPad. I could live with that, but the synching process is a non-starter for me. I’ve cancelled my subscription.
As a long-time user, I can confidently say that Outline is an excellent app for organizing my notes and research. Over the years, it has evolved into a feature-rich and reliable tool for both personal and professional use. I particularly appreciate the flexibility of having notebooks with subfolders and the ability to keep my notes organized across multiple platforms. The syncing feature with iCloud works well across my various macOS and iOS devices. I also enjoy the simplicity of the interface and how easy it is to access all my data, even from older macOS versions. The app has made managing my research and data logging tasks so much easier. Overall, Outline is my go-to app for note-taking and organization. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a solid, versatile note-taking app that works seamlessly across devices.
I have used this app on and off over many years, typically going back to OneNote however. The one thing that I have never liked about these types of apps is printing them to a PDF or to printer. There are no “margins” to know if what you have put onto the screen page will flow over a “right margin”. I loaded up Outline again to see what improvements have been made and discovered that pretty much what you see on the screen page is what prints to paper or PDF as one page without having right margin overflow issues. That is a huge deal for me when keeping genealogy research logs. OneNote still does not do this, so I have multiple extra print pages where the information flowed too far off the right invisible screen margin. The other issue that I like about Outline is that my files are local and sync’d on iCloud, rather that just dealing with a shortcut to OneDrive that OneNote uses. Other than these two things, this app does much of what OneNote does like linking to other pages and such.
I really liked this app a lot, super clean interface, had a one note feel and easy to navigate. The recent UI update fills the screen with side tabs which I don’t care for, I like them being at the top of the screen for easier navigation and less clutter.
Glad to see a dead app come to alive
I have honestly never written a bad review before but this upset me so much. I loved this app so much until I realized a mistake I made and went to undo it and found that there is NO UNDO OR REDO BUTTONS! Honestly that's embarassing. As a note taking app you should be able to have a redo/undo button. Fix it for the love of god.
Love the app its everything that I need. I don't understand all of the negative comments. My experience has been great using it for over a year now! Never leave reviews!
I have had numerous issues with the program syncing. And now, suddenly, every time I open the app, none of my notebooks appears. I have to go back and find the backup link. I really depend on this style of tracking notes; however, this program is SUPER buggy for Mac, I've found.
App seems great. One caveat: currently, under iOS (iPhone 13 Pro Max), the "Tab / Tab Back" are not visible when editing lists, making indentation impossible.
