Designed by the Improvement Service for Scottish Local Authorities, using mygovscot myaccount as a secure single-sign-on service, parentsportal.scot App replaces letters in the schoolbag and phonecalls to the school by connecting parents directly with their child's school online.

Parents of children in Scottish schools that use parentsportal.scot have easy access to services and information, such as:

How many parents are separated in the country? The portal does not allow for 2 parents to access for example parent pay and to rub it in everytime there is a permission slip I get told I am not the main contact! Actually I am for 50% of the week.

There are too many notifications and there is no obvious way to reduce this or to change where the notifications go e.g. only to app, only email, none!

When submitting permissions there is too much repetition and requests for information already given in the annual data check.

This app makes me want to go back to receiving letters from the school for notifications and permission slips.

Also the initial setup of the system is confusing and not seamless going between the other government sites.

This app should alpha or beta tested with a group of parents before any further changes are made.

I’ve tried downloading this about 5 times and it never works. It does download the icon but when you click that it just opens as a black screen. I tried the website too but they don’t even list their contact details, let alone offer real support for this malfunctioning app

It eventually opened after some months. It then would not send the validation code to my email.
I eventually got around this by using an email address I never use. It then took ages to register as the system needs exact spelling, capitals and middle names.

A right carry on!

I like the idea of the parents portal, however why the unnecessary repetition of information? On permission slips I have to put myself down as contact twice, even though I am already on file as emergency contact and I have to repeat my child’s medical information and GP contact details, even though they are already held on file within the parents portal! Seem unnecessary.

Login process is pretty abysmal. Doesn’t seem to retain the password and the password requirements are bonkers. 12 characters. And a special character. But not just any special character. Only some. Which means that some of the passwords generated by a password manager won’t work 🤷‍♂️
