Thought I’d give the app a go after seeing the guy on BBC podcasts. While the idea behind an app like this is generally a positive one, this was clearly designed entirely using AI tools. Everything from the writing, descriptions, images and UI appears to be entirely AI generated to me?

As a Registered Midwife and Health Visitor, I really value anything that helps fathers and partners feel included, informed and confident throughout pregnancy and the transition into parenthood.
What I particularly like about the Paternal app is that it has been created specifically with dads in mind. It provides accessible, week-by-week information about pregnancy, birth and preparing for baby, alongside practical ways partners can become actively involved.
From a midwifery perspective, this is important. Dads aren't simply there to “help mum” they are becoming parents too. Understanding what is happening during pregnancy, preparing for birth and knowing how to support their partner can help them feel more confident and involved.
I particularly like the focus on practical preparation and conversations around birth, encouraging partners to think about how they can support their partner emotionally and practically.
From a Health Visitor perspective, I also appreciate that the journey doesn't end at birth. Supporting dads to understand newborn life, their own relationship with their baby and the importance of their partner's wellbeing is equally valuable.
For me, the app works best as a complement to midwifery and NHS care, providing additional information and encouraging partners to become active participants in the journey.
My message to dads would be simple:
You don't need to know everything before becoming a dad. But you can start learning, preparing and being involved from the very beginning.

Saw him on BBC Radio and thought I’d give the app a go. Really like the idea behind it and it’s actually been really useful already!

There’s loads of stuff on there that I wouldn’t have thought about like that it gives you things to actually do. 

One little suggestion would be to have the option to add your own checklists or tasks, so you could add things specific to your own pregnancy and tick them off in the app.

Really good app though and love what these lads are trying to do for dads. 👏🏼

Great stuff, very well thought out. Would be really good if the app could pull out key points from the timeline if we start midway through the journey. Obviously not everything is relevant but there are some things that you could highlight as points of interest that we missed starting later.

Also a space to write in the app related to the tasks. For example write down one good thing you did this week… would be nice to have a space in the app to do it.

### ***** "A game changer for dads-to-be"
I’m currently expecting my first baby, and having my husband use Paternal throughout my pregnancy has honestly been a lifesaver.

Pregnancy can understandably feel very focused on the person carrying the baby, so it’s been amazing to see my husband have something specifically designed to help him understand what’s happening, know what to expect and, most importantly, know how he can support me.

He’s constantly one step ahead thanks to the prompts and information in the app, and there have been so many moments where he’s been able to reassure me or know what I might need before I’ve even asked.

It’s helped him feel much more equipped and involved during a time where dads can sometimes feel like they’re on the sidelines. Paternal has given him the confidence to be an active birth partner rather than just someone watching from the side.

If you’re expecting a baby and want your partner to feel prepared, involved and confident throughout pregnancy, I genuinely couldn’t recommend Paternal enough. ❤️
