No nonsense. Seems reliable. Like workflow. Can’t get collaborations to connect. Need a finer pen stroke though. When exporting, in says ‘open in’ which is not good ui descriptor. Just name it export to get all the choices like save to iPad. -- Hateapplealways, 2025-05-14 ### ***** "Whoopee, another update!" As a long term user of the Cabinet app I was both surprised and delighted to see that an update was available. Over the ten plus years I’ve relied on this app it has served me well despite having a collection of several hundred PDF’s, some of them 200mb plus in size. A handful of crashes have occurred and many times the app would only relaunch after a cold reset of the iPad. Hopefully this update will improve the stability still further. The one feature I do really miss is the ability to add new folders that will sync with iCloud. However, the folders I had already set to sync on an older version of this app still sync flawlessly. It is important to me to have all my PDF’s backed up. Perhaps the developer(s) might consider reinstating his feature? (Please!) I blushingly admit that I have had brief dalliances with many other pdf apps but this is the only one that I would marry - it is a superb app and used daily. Edit: 2/2/25 Delighted to see an update of my favourite app. The last update was very stable indeed. Simple intuitive design at its best. Thank you. -- Hovvie, 2025-02-02 ### ***** "I never write reviews, but I depend on this App!" I’ve been using this app to save PDFs including recipes, CVs, and other documents of all kinds. I love that they can be annotated and shared with/without my notes, and saved into folders so they can be found again. It’s one of the most intuitive apps on my iPad. In fact, I’ve got so much important stuff in there that it occurred to me I would be lost if I couldn’t access it! Please tell me if you ever plan to discontinue it, which I hope won’t happen. Some suggestions for developers- it would be fab if docs could be shared to social media straight from the app, or be put on a clipboard so they could be pasted wherever. Also, make it usable on an iPhone? Although I know it would be difficult to read/annotate etc, I would find it useful to be able to save straight to the app from my phone rather than having to email myself docs to later save on my iPad. In the meantime, I thoroughly recommend it and urge you to try it!! -- Cwtchkin, 2024-01-28 ### **--- "Skeuomorphic design at its worst" This app is really leaning into design over function. Apple has moved away from Skeuomorphism (they fired Scott Forstall for it) making this app feel extremely dated. This is one of the best apps for PDFs annotation - the really important feature for me is that it has an eraser to wipe any part of free-hand annotation. It is the only PDF annotator I know of with this feature - for all others generally you have to delete the whole free-hand annotation. To the contrary, with the eraser this app works closer to a drawing app. The interface is also very user friendly and intuitive. Another interesting feature is that it is possible to share the annotations on their own, rather than the whole annotated file. It also has a nice filing system to organise the files in the app, as well as Dropbox integration (it also integrated with Google Drive). Just three suggestions for improvement: 1. It would be fantastic if this app could work with Split Screen, as it would increase its usability enormously; 2. Currently free hand annotation come out as slightly unfocused, as if the ink had seeped into porous paper :-) It would be great if these could be in focus 3. The last time I felt compelled to review an app must have been about 6 years ago! This is a must have if you plan on using a lot of PDFs on your iPad. Let's load a document, horizontal/landscape mode, of course (it's an iPad with folded case afterall). So, let's crop, zoom in, lock the zoom. So far, so good, although these options are nested, that is bizarrely they need to have several steps, several touches, to get to. Now we're at the top of the first page so lets tap the bottom of the screen to see the next screen further down...no, nothing but the menu appearing. You have to drag, drag, drag just to see the next portion and imagine having to do this for say multiple 500 page documents! So, laboriously, we're at the bottom of the page. Let's swipe to the next page. If we've zoomed in too far for PDF cabinet's liking we cannot turn the next page! So, unlock, zoom out, relock, swipe again (!) At the bottom of the page, we swipe and it takes us to.....? Not the top of the next page but the bottom of the next page ??? No tap up, but we then need to drag, up , up, up, before continuing our reading and then drag, drag, drag down to continue! And we're only on the SECOND page!! Swipe again, and oh look it's reset my zoom level, so I have to redo it all over again. And now it will not swipe forward at all. It is without doubt a laborious and unnatural way to read a document. Compare this to Documents by readdle or Goodreader and it lacks basic reading functionality. It has no ability to have several PDFs open at once. You cannot edit the functions: I NEVER need to use Collaborate -prominent in the top-level menu - but ALWAYS need to Crop, Lock zoom and/or Fit to Width several times and in every document and yet all those are nested three clicks down. Indeed, it has no settings at all as far as I can find. The addition of a crop tool is nice - only apps such as Sidebooks and Goodreader do them well.
