Subscriptions Ruin Software
It shows how little a software developer has to offer, when they go via a subscription method. Anyone who has purchased the software outright, ends up having that purchase Frankenstein beyond belief. For the developer it is a reliable income stream but a long-term it stifle in their ambitions to innovate, they rest on their subscriber base. Adobe is the same, there’s not much more you get with it now as a subscription service vs when you could actually own your software. It only benefits the company and not the individual end user.

I can’t express how much I like this app. It’s so incredibly good at what does.

I just love this app. I use if most days and it saves me so much time.
The incumbent iPad PDF reader
I wish someone would develop a competitor to this app, to encourage Readdle to improve it instead of just taking my money every year. Over the past 5 years I have paid £240 for premium subscription renewals, but have Readdle improved the app? No, they have not. Instead, they have spent my subscriptions on Californian zinfandel, taking wine tasting tours in the Napa Valley, nipping across on their yachts to the Channel Islands while I have to transfer my documents to the useless Adobe Acrobat if I find one page hasn’t OCR’d (because PDF Expert doesn’t do OCR — who would need such an abstruse feature in a PDF reader??)
Shouldn’t have to pay to rotate a page!!
You have lost me, I can understand having to pay for advanced editing features. The free version doesn’t even let you rotate a page so you can read it making it useless to me. I will find another app.
Used to be so good
This was once such a great app; everything ran smoothly and the functionality when working was by far the best of many PDF apps I’ve tested. Note; I pay for the full experience. However, in the last few months the app has become unusable. Files won’t open and uploads aren’t showing up in OneDrive. I’ve tried deleting the app and reinstalling to no avail. I will regretfully be cancelling my subscription until there’s signs of improvement on the free version.
Couldn’t get it to work
No idea how to use it. It wouldn’t recognise any pdfs on my iPad, no idea why but even tried re downloading some and it didn’t help.
Worsening User Interface
This used to be a great app for viewing PDFs on an iPad, but every so often the user interface keeps worsening when they push an update. First annoying thing was when they added a little pdf icon on top of the PDF thumbnail. I mostly use it for PDF files, so this is just redundant and annoying, as a nice thumbnail is now marred with an overlay in the corner (at least add an option to turn this off). And with the latest update the PDF thumbnails have now been reduced in size, I guess so that more thumbnails can be displayed horizontally. What a mess. The PDF title is now wider than the thumbnail and there is such a lot of empty space between thumbnails, the thumbnail icon is now so small that it hasn’t become easy to see the cover of a pdf book. (There is no option to increase the size of the thumbnails and choose the amount of pdf thumbnails to be displayed horizontally.) When it comes to the user interface, what used to feel like a great iPad app now feels like some garbage that’s been written in a week by someone learning Visual Basic on Windows. It still seems to be ok for viewing PDFs for the time being.
