Lincoln Goines (electric and acoustic bassist) writes: “This app is an engaging and informative way to check out the original funk. A great tool for musicians, dancers, and all lovers of rhythm”.

Percussive Arts Society: “The interactive application is very thorough [...]. Navigation is simple and the layout is logical and easy to grasp.”

PercussionTutor will allow you to approach South American, Caribbean and West African music in a different way. This app offers you more than a simple play-along. It includes standard notation, videos and specific claves. We also took the outmost care to capture the natural feeling of all those drumming traditions.

For the batá rhythms we even developed a random playback engine that will simulate an actual batá performance.

This app puts you in a live playing situation - just like you learned your mother language. You will sound more natural and more alive and you will awaken to new rhythmic possibilities. It's also a great tool for other musicians, dancers and performers who want to immerse themselves into centuries-old traditional languages.

Time doesn’t line up with metronome….

salsablues on

Time doesn’t line up with metronome…. It is like 2 clicks ahead of metronomes markings, it doesn’t line up with prerecorded midi stuff. This thing is off. Also instruments distort when speed up( moderately) , not good. I only used the plena rhythm , it looks ok when starts but need work with distorting instruments and quantize needs work too. Don’t purchase this.

A must have for anyone interested in rhythm

The ability to solo each instrument or several instruments in an ensemble and play along is priceless. The accompanying videos and sheet music is unbelievable given the low price of the Pro app. I’ve enjoyed it for years and decided I had to write review. This is one of those rare apps where the love of the music and the subject comes thru.

Awesome App

Great app, would be nice to have a limited free version to trial before purchase but worth the €.

Excellent App

This is the best percussion app I’ve seen in the app store. I hope they continue to expand rhythms that include traditional rhythms from Colombia and other South American countries. I really hope you consider Cumbia, Bullerengue, Mapale, Vallenato Rhythms, and Colombian Pacific Rhythms. I know there’s a world of rhythms but why not make a recommendation. Also, the Dominican section could really use a Bachata rhythm. Thank you for an excellent app. I really hope you continue to grow.

Wow.

Amazing and I’m very overwhelmed by the amount of rhythms. I am so glad that I stumbled upon this app. I wonder what future updates will be like.

Truly essential

A rare app that’s so good I literally tell every student and peer they must have it.

Outstanding value

I didn’t hesitate to pay $10 for this app - the batá content alone is worth more to me than that! Would love to see the addition of more West-African dance rhythms. Please keep this going, guys!

4.5 Stars, A fenomenal Rhythm App

LariosOnBass on

This year on Nov 6 will be my 4th year of owning this App. Originally on the iOS it was called “Percussion” but today it’s called “Percussiontutor” As a music educator for 30 years I have used many Apps that claimed to be authentic and were not, they were very pretty cheesy. “Percussiontutor” is an excellent tool for teaching various Afro-Caribbean, Afro-Cuban and Afro-Brazilian Rhythms. This particular App is authentic in its presentation. Being able to print a pdf of the percussion parts and to see the rhythms being perform by Masters and profesional musicians makes this a fenomenal resource for the music educator, students, instrumentalist and dancers. I have used it to teach 3-5 year olds, pre-k thru 5th grade, middle school, high school and college students. When I compare the rhythm to recording tracks, my students make a connection to the rhythms on the “Percussiontutor” App. Watching the videos helps them to have access to how to execute the different percussion parts. In class we are able to eliminate certain percussion parts and the students can listen how different combination of instruments work together to form the rhythm section. My students also have purchased the app as a required tool for the music class. They learn basic patterns in isolation when practicing at home or in the practice room. The 4.5 Stars and not 5 star is due to the inability to increase the tempo with out loosing the quality of the original recording of the rhythm. Also a volume control, found in other cheesy apps, would definitely kick-it up a notch. Developers, things to consider for improvement: 1. Tempo adjustment with-out loosing the quality of the original rhythm 2. Volume control within the App itself 3. As we continue to improve technology, a counter or digital tempo would kick it up a notch 4. Better graphics or authentic photos of the instruments, would bring it to iOS 13.6 level 5. Add the ability to connect to Garage band or any other DAW App. It would make this an ultimate foundation builder for recording on a digital platform. If non of these suggestion can be added, I will continue to use it as a teaching tool. With its limitations, Percussion tutor is a great thought out App. Shout-out to Victor Rendon, Luis Bauzo and many others who kept the teaching of these traditional rhythms and instruments alive at the old Boys Harbor Music School in Spanish Harlem USA. Again, thank you to the developers and master musicians who participated in creating th
