Description

Everything your gym coach told you about stretching was wrong. Performance Stretching will show you how to do it right.

Most people learned back in elementary school that they should do static stretching (where you hold a stretch for a few minutes) before running or engaging in sports to prevent injury. It turns out that static stretching before a workout not only decreases athletic performance, it can actually increase the risk of injury.

The right way to get ready for an intense workout is dynamic stretching: This active form of stretching moves your muscles through the full range of motion to increase your blood flow, reduce tightness, deliver important nutrients to muscles, and improve your athletic performance. Performance Stretching will show you the most effective type of warm up for running and nearly every type of sport. Add it before any activity and you will be amazed by how much your performance improves.

No matter how well you warm up, athletic activity still puts stress on the body. Performance Stretching also includes foam roller programs to give yourself a deep tissue massage and release knots that limit movement, keep your muscles tight, and lead to injury. Foam roller stretching is also excellent for body builders, or anyone that wants to build healthy muscles, to prep their muscles for growth.

If you don't have a foam roller, Performance Stretching still includes great ways to cool down your muscles and lessen post-workout soreness by flushing out the lactic acid. This is where static stretching is best. Done at the proper time, in the proper way, static stretching will help you improve your balance, blood circulation, flexibility, range of motion, and production of synovial fluid (the fluid that reduces friction in your joints).

Whether you need a proper warm up, a cool down, or a relaxing, healing recovery, Performance Stretching will guide you through the right types of stretches for the right occasions and it will show you how to do them effectively.

Awesome Stretching App

Kozmo Girl on

I’ve been using this app for over a year and I love it! I like that you can pick different options based on how your body feels. I couldn’t live without it. When I’ve had trouble with the app, the tech team is there to help. Definitely worth the investment.

A perfect app and a lame app at the same time

Jajina on

This is in many ways the best stretching app. It’s buy once, use forever, no subscriptions, it has good exercises, flexible choices in exercise selection, nice videos, produces new random stretching sequences, and someone with a chipper voice to talk you through them. The problems: You can only get the instruction on doing exercises before you start, why can’t you have them play in the rest gap between exercises or on request? The app hasn’t been updated to be an iPad app (though works okay using the last decade 2x trick in general). The main routine works fine in landscape mode, but the initial screen to get you started ONLY works in portrait. 2020 review update: Still use this app regularly, still waiting for the app update ... it’s been a few years....

Excelente!

Gran aplicación para principiantes. Ojala puedan hacer la version en español.

Perfect for on the go

OSRunner on

The app is perfect for on the go and away from home. My lower backs gets tight from me sitting and traveling for work. My lower back doesn’t bother me as long as I do the lower back stretches.

Great stretching options

KRY4GLORY on

Stretching & Strengthening options to meet your changing physical and Training needs. Well worth the investment.

Flawed App

Deanc42 on

The app does not flow well when used. You can’t adjust intervals between stretches. Explanations of stretches are poor and even though there is too much time between exercises, the examples don’t start until the time begins.

Perfect Stretch App

Honeybee1016 on

I’m really glad I downloaded this app. I have neck and back pain from an old car accident, and doing these stretch routines are awesome therapy. There’s so many options for choosing body parts and when I’m short on time the quick 7 minute routines do the trick. I highly recommend.

Locks up, can’t play my own music

el skillet on

The app became unresponsive shortly after first use began. I can’t continue to play my own music through the Music app - this app takes over the audio. And I can’t add protected tracks to it anyway. Looks like it could have been good for stretching, but too frustrating to continue right after buying it. Will be asking for a refund.

Really Helped Back

Bitty38 on

I’ve been using this app for almost 2 years now. I find the exercises intuitive, easy to complete, and well thought out. There’s a good mix of standing and sitting exercises so you have chances to rest and don’t get completely tired out by some of the resistance stretches. I have chronic back pain from being overweight. These exercises help reduce that back pain while also burning up to 100 cal per session. The timer on each of the exercises also helps keep me honest so I’m not rushing through the exercises. Generally speaking after doing these exercises for a few days my back pain subsides and remains away for a few days, even if I don’t continue to exercise. My only criticism is that some of the exercises are difficult to understand because the visuals are lacking. If there was a camera that rotated around the model it would make these exercises easier to interpret.
