Hintergrund:
Mit zunehmendem Alter und einer älter werdenden Gesellschaft steigt das Risiko zum Pflegefall zu werden.

Die gesetzliche und private Pflegeversicherung – jeweils als Pflichtversicherung mit identischen Leistungen konzipiert – deckt als Teilkasko-Versicherung nicht alle Pflegekosten. Bei Heimkosten in Höhe von rund 4.000 Euro und mehr trägt die Pflege-Pflichtversicherung maximal die Hälfte der anfallenden Kosten (ab 2017 maximal 2.005 Euro in Pflegegrad 5). Es verbleibt also eine Versorgungslücke in Höhe von ca. 2.000 Euro, die es mit dem Abschluss einer privaten Pflege-Zusatzversicherung zu schließen gilt.

Die Pflege-Reform hat grundlegende Änderungen für die Pflegeversicherung mit sich gebracht – und dies nicht nur in der Pflegepflichtversicherung sondern auch in der Pflege-Zusatzversicherung. 

Eckpfeiler ist die Einführung eines neuen Pflegebedürftigkeitsbegriffs mit dem die bisherigen drei Pflegestufen durch fünf Pflegegrade ersetzt werden. Zukünftig steht mit der Einführung der neuen Pflegegrade nicht mehr die körperlichen Defizite und der daraus resultierende Pflegeaufwand (in Minuten) im Mittelpunkt, sondern der Grad der Selbständigkeit der Pflegebedürftigen. Ab 2017 spielt es daher keine Rolle mehr, ob die Pflegebedürftigkeit auf körperlichen oder geistigen Einschränkungen basiert.
