Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) is one of most common heart rhythm disorders and increases the risk for heart disease and stroke, both leading causes of death.
The Photo AFib Detector was designed for personal AFib detection and Heart Rate monitoring.
It uses smartphone's inbuilt back camera to capture your fingertip video for PPG signal extraction and then estimate two parameters of RMSSD (Root Mean Square of Successive Difference) and ShE (Shannon Entropy) for AFib detection. It also provide heart-rate monitoring function with percentage of your maximum heart rate if you have input your age in the setting.
Note: This App is not to be used for medical diagnosis. Please consult your physician if in doubt.

Free for abnormality detection
I don’t know yet how accurate it is but most other heart monitors charge extra if you want anything other than basic heart rate. This app offers more for free. But unfortunately half the time i use it it just doesn’t work, stays the toilet over and over even though i’m not moving
Doesn’t work on newer iPhones
Will not work on iPhones with multiple cameras because you have to put your finger over the cameras and the flashlight simultaneously which is impossible to do. Worthless if you have a new iPhone.
Die trying
This can be difficult to use. Sometimes will not give a basic reading. Not good when you are concerned with your heart.
Inaccurate
Used this in an attempt to verify accuracy 10 min pre and post having an Echo Cardiogram which confirmed Dx of Afib
The app iPhone 7 showed
NO ABNORMALLY both pre & post echo
This should be removed from the internet
Very touchy
If you want to check for AFib at home get Kardia Mobile device. It’s through alivecor
Completely inaccurate
I tried it while I was having an obvious a fib event. It said both that it could not get a reading due to interference, and then still reported that my heartbeat was normal. I repeated the test maybe a dozen times. Did not report accurately once. Useless.
Virtually no instruction
How do you print or send results? Do the developers ever answer these concerns?
Also I have kept my hand perfectly still and it says “unreadable” but it is because my heart feels like it is jumping all over, it isn’t me moving.
Added ads. Not dependable
Did work fine but recently it’s all about ads and it does not recognize my finger and keeps starting over. Basically useless. Shame I used to depend on this app. No longer though.
Can’t detect error
I’ve tried and tried and tried.
Free vs paid version
On iPhone 8+ and latest os. I suffer uncontrolled Afib and testing only shows me in Afib less than 10% of time and I can actually feel my heart rate shifting. There are times I cannot take my BP. Also please what is difference between free and paid versions? If paid version offered better accuracy I would likely buy it.
