## PocketGrib Description
With PocketGrib you can download, view and analyse global weather data while on the go.

Wind, precipitation, pressure, temperature, wave and other data extracted from GRIB files are displayed through our powerful GRIB viewer interface.

Perfect for sailors (both sailing and in the pub), windsurfers, storm chasers, outdoor enthusiasts, amateur and professional meteorologists.

PocketGrib downloads and displays the following weather types:
- Wind speed and direction (10 m above ground/sea)
- Precipitation (rain, snow etc)
- Pressure
- Air temperature
- Waves (including Mediterranean and Black Sea)
- Cloud cover
- Relative humidity
- CAPE (Convective Atmospheric Potential Energy)
- Current (Atlantic only)
- 500mb Height

Direct download of GRIB data from NOAA's GFS (Global Forecast System) model
- Forecasts up to 8 days
- Data steps: 3hr, 6hr, 12hr
- Worldwide coverage
- Resolution: 0.25°, 0.5°, 1°, 2°
- Data updated 4 times a day (every 6 hours)
Also support for COAMPS (0.2° resolution), WW3, NOGAPS, RTOFS (Currents) and FNMOC WW3 (Mediterranean wave) models.

GRIB forecasts are published without human intervention or review. As such, the end user requires some knowledge and awareness. Most GRIB models do NOT accurately forecast hurricanes and tropical cyclones so their use should be combined with specific hurricane and tropical cyclone forecasts.

I like Pocket Grib as it displays all the information, especially winds & waves at the same time. It can be as detailed as you wish and you can scroll through the 5 (or 8) days with the same interval. It is simple to use and well worth the $8, which covers both your iPhone and iPad.

I have used 'pocketgrib' now for two years. I still copy gribs when deep sea via the HAM network and fax charts from Norfolk Virginia.  However when coastal and can get 3G or internet, 'pocketgrib' is great. Also last year was able to copy gribs on a daily basis and guide a solo transatlantic sailor around the worst of the weather by e-mailing the reports to him by HAM radio. The last part of his trip was threatened by Hurricane Albert and entering the Gulf Stream was a nightmare for him. However with 'pocketgrib' files I was able to give him considerably more info than he could get himself on board his yacht. 
As a pilot I also use 'pocketgrib' to supplement weather information from environment Canada and other sources when planning flights. The ability to pick any area of the world and get forecasts is fantastic.
I sailed around the word in 1974-1979 using but a sextant and timepiece. My how the world has changed for the mariner and aviator. GPS and 'pocketgrib' have made both pursuits safer and easier.

My husband and I are sailing around the world and halfway round we discovered Pocket GRIBBs.  They so user friendly and accurate.  The visuals are easy to see and to understand.  We now use them whenever we have wifi.  They will help us get around the Cape of Good Hope safely.

If you have any desire to know what the winds going to be doing this is the app! Very accurate and gives play by play of wind speed & direction along with much more data. I use it to advise marine users of potential winds over next 48 hrs. It is important that we issue the correct information to the port users as it may affect the safety. We have in the past always compare PocketGrib with other PC Web based links and PocketGrib provides the great accuracy ! Great tool to add to your cache!

App will open and display grib files ordered through Sailmail, provided the sailmail account is POP'd into the iPad mail app. 

One feature I would like to see is the ability to change the colours of the  wind barbs. The current colours can be a little difficult to see. The monochrome setting works, but colours are nicer.
