Castro Podcast Player & App

It is remiss that there is no facility to cast to Google speakers on your WiFi. Pocket cast does this so it is definitely possible.

I listen to podcasts all the time and I dislike spending time curating my queue or having to make playlists. Castro makes it as quick and simple as possible, allowing me to add all unplayed episodes of a particular show to my queue with one click, or to choose episodes from my inbox quickly and easily. It’s well worth the cost of the premium version because of the time I save. Nice one Castro, great app!

Apple Podcasts has (for me) become too sow and so I’ve returned to using Castro after a gap of about 4 years. It’s like a breath of fresh air. Such a great way to manage podcasts and a real delight to use.

Loving the new icon and appreciating the faster pace of updates from the new ownership. Keep up the good work.

I used to love the simplicity and great functionality of a competitor app that overhauled its platform in July 2024. The loss of some basic functions sent me in search of a new app and here I am. Thanks Castro - there’s only one small ‘nice but non essential’ feature that I miss from my old app. But I can enjoy podcasts again after a month of frustration. So, if anyone is seeking a replacement for THAT app formerly known as one of the best, yes, Castro is worth the jump.

Sorry guys but considering the countless problems we’ve faced as regular and loyal subscribers of Castro, the fact you’ve more than doubled the quarterly subscription cost with absolutely zero contact with us isn’t acceptable and I’ve cancelled my subscription. This isn’t the way to treat loyal subscribers especially with no contact and all the downtime and messing about we’ve had this year. Very disappointing.

The app is improving now it's changed owners. I have a few minor bugs but the devs say they will be fixed. When they are ill renew my subscription. Long live Castro.

EDIT: 4th June 2024. Still no iCloud sync or any sync between my daily driver iPhone and my test iPhone. Both on newest iOS and signed in on same subscription. So I have to add new podcasts that I have installed on daily driver to the test one, this feels really backward. Yes I know I can export then import but why so many steps to keep both in sync. I have noticed over the last update (beta TestFlight) that updates of a couple of shows are either not showing at all or at least delayed by few hours 3+. I checked straight away with other apps, Apple Podcasts, Pocket Casts, Overcast and apple always updated, pocket Casts is definitely second followed by overcast(not subscribed anymore). I’m not sure what’s happening and I really hope they get the servers sorted as I’m not liking this at all. It’s been happening a lot. Error 5002 or error 4 something as it changed really quick which I didn’t remember? Anyways please sort out as I’ve got/had high hopes for a Castro comeback…. Since the new owners this App is progressing nicely and really has helpful support. I paid for subscription and got on to the beta and I’m happy. Everything works and I really like the flow and UI. Yes there are others with similar options so that’s now the norm and others have different UI which is down to personal preference. I like another’s UI slightly more but they seem to put new things behind an extra Patreon extortionate paywall price even if you have full subscription so that’s a bit off and leaves a sour taste.yes Castro sub is lower now and in the middle of the top 3 now for cost which is a good move and the chapter selection and other tweaks come out for all subs and not behind a sub+Patreon.!!!! Overall I’ve been running this side by side with my longstanding App and it’s winning and getting better and more honest and nothing is hidden. It works with the Apple Watch independently of iPhone so no need to download then listen. Oh no it’s a solid stream and go which I love and don’t have to download podcasts filling up unnecessary space. I’m a happy bunny and glad I took the plunge and trusted the new owners to make it even better, thank you.

Since going under new owner ship, the app has improved immensely. It is now back as my primary podcast app. As some one who likes to rearrange the order I listen to shows as they come in Castro is great. My only issue is that it doesn’t support video which is about 70% of my podcasts.

The new developers of Castro are regularly communicating via social media channels, the back-end servers have been fixed, new podcast notifications come through super speedy again now. Whilst it's early days under this new team, we've already got TestFlight builds with new app icons and widgets plus a lot of fixes to issues introduced by the previous developers 👍🏻 Great to have Castro back as my main podcast player and wish the new team every success and look forward to future updates.
