Polestar FAQ
Is Polestar free?
Yes, Polestar is completely free and it doesn't have any in-app purchases or subscriptions.
Is Polestar legit?
⚠️ The Polestar app has poor ratings and negative feedback. Users seem unsatisfied with its performance or features.
Absolutely love my PS2 - it is beautiful to drive and has made my long distance commuting so much less stressful. The finish and performance of the car is amazing and worth every cent. Don’t listen to the naysayers about the reported range - range depends almost entirely on how you drive the car, the conditions and the topography of the roads you drive on. I live in a hilly area and commute long distances - I’ve never had an issue with the range. The boot is also enormous - it fits a surprising amount of shopping and all the usual family associated junk.
Unfortunately, the tech lets the car down terribly. The app is not particularly useful - the functions are limited and searching for troubleshooting content is quite difficult (I usually end up on the website rather than the app). The app often won’t connect to my vehicle (this is a daily occurrence) and regularly needs to be restarted.
The digital mobile phone key is incredibly frustrating - not being able to start the car in a carpark with a poor internet connection is the sort of thing that sends some Karens postal. If my teenage daughter sits in the car while I nip into the shops, the alarm repeatedly goes off even in reduced alarm mode and even when the primary key has been left in the car. And the rear reversing camera … nothing to do with the app, but for those interested, check out the complaints on the web forums - the camera is completely useless in the dark.
Polestar, hopefully you read these reviews … you have an amazing product and with a few software improvements, it will be an almost unrivalled EV. But at the moment, the app is pretty rubbish and the in-car tech unreliable.
Great car atrocious app
Rarely works, constant glitches, forget about using it instead of the key. Such a great car but the app is embarrassing. Assume you will be using only the key 80% of the time
Don’t use unless desperate
The most useless App around.
Doesn’t work. Can only connect for basic functions such as hands free phone. Cannot access features claimed to be available. Eg: can’t ever see charge status etc..
don’t waste time. Go “manual”
Incredibly limited and unstable
Bare bones functionality and highly unstable / unreliable makes this largely pointless. Compared to every other EV manufacturer (let alone Tesla) this app is bottom of the heap. Big gap to close and they will need to as it will hurt the brand for some. Needs urgent work.
Woeful
This app does almost nothing, and the little it does do is buggy as hell. Doesn’t anyone do *any* testing before release?
Key feature is very unreliable
Looks like I have to carry around the fob since the app cannot be relied upon
Pleeeease do better!
I love my Polestar 2. Friends and family love it also. The app, on the other hand, I am reluctant to show because it's simply too embarrassing. Please invest in a big upgrade because it needs so much, and can be so much more.
Car is great, app disappoints
The Polestar app for drivers, rather than people in the purchase process, is disappointing. It is slow to load and there is a delay on some of the main actions, such as locking doors or activating the climate system.
It almost always gives me an error when I open it, which isn’t confidence building. It seems as if there has been insufficient investment in making the app performant, which is the big gap.
I would also like to see some key features in the app. Change charge max level is one. A big one is having access to Google Maps trip planning, so I can calculate whether and how I’ll recharge on longer trips. I’d also appreciate a simple Apple Widget to show charge progress.
I love my car and hope one day to love the app that supports it.
Woefully Inadequate
This app is really bad, considering how expensive the car is. It’s constantly freezing/loading and has very limited functionality. Polestar make beautiful cars, but their tech is nowhere near where it needs to be (their website and ordering process are also terrible).
My headphones do a better job
I second the sentiment of another reviewer- it could be soooo much better…
The feedback is poor at best, the most common notice is ‘Failed …’ and ‘Error ..’.
Connection times via Bluetooth or internet are ridiculously long - it makes me wonder if with an increasing number of cars the server infrastructure is struggling.
And please, who wants to buy ‘another’ car through the app?! That screen realestate could - if at all be used better elsewhere, for example having more than one programmed charging schedule to choose from (however that is a limitation of the car …)
