Amazing Plex music player, hope it comes back

mschmitt23 on

Really amazing app for using Plex for music. Better download support than Plexamp, cleaner UI, among other advantages. I really hope the dev is able to return to Prism someday.

Not working well

Not working well currently on

Everyone seems to love this app, and the design is great, but it seems to have gone without updates for a while. Music plays, but the currently playing track does not update accordingly. The current track time also doesn’t work and always shows 0 time remaining.

Best Plex music player for iOS hands down

I love this app and use it every day. Very well made, feels native!

Abandoned?

This app hasn’t been updated in over a year. The foundation for something great is here, and this dev has certainly proved their abilities with the Prologue app for audiobooks, but Plexamp is probably a better choice until this app shows signs of life. Plexamp might not be utterly flawless, but it is getting regular updates and new features. You’re gonna need to purchase the premium version of Prisim to really get the features you want (downloads, refined sorting, etc.), but again, there’s just no upkeep here. If you run into an issue or find something broken, that’s it.

does exactly what it says perfectly

A better journey

adventure_tense on

Whereas PlexAmp focuses more on eye-candy over functionality, Prism demonstrates a clear commitment to usability. Offline and online listening is well thought out and unified. Downloading tracks are managed within one centralized library view (not two like PlexAmp does). Long press and tracks/albums will download immediately and show a tag. Just filter the entire library by “downloaded”, and now you have your localized library suitable for commuting through cellular dead zones. The downloaded tracks sit in a folder on the device. Update 10/8/23 - Still going strong but does have more issues on iOS17 it seems. I hope the developer returns soon to clean up some loose ends. Or maybe go open source and post the code on GitHub? It’s worthy of the attention.

Outstanding client for Plex-hosted FLAC

ShieldsPC on

Absolutely loving having FLAC on the go. I’d give it 5 stars if it didn’t freeze on me so frequently. Interface is very clean. Functionality is fast. There are a few features I’d like to see in future updates. Namely the ability to truncate silence at the end of tracks when playing as part of an album. Like a per-album toggle for seamless back-to-back playback.

5 Stars when the Developer Updates

jarrennesbitt on

This is a frustrating review to write, because objectively this app is fantastic. The UI is clean and intuitive, it integrates with PLEX and Apple Music beautifully, and is worlds better than Plex’s own PlexAmp. However, this app hasn’t been touched in a year. If you look at the developers posts on twitter and Reddit, they have made many promises to add features as far back as 3 years ago, none of which have been implemented. The developer’s focus is clearly on Prologue, and that’s fine, but they’ve left Prism to gather dust. Which is a shame since it could be the perfect music app. Because of this I would not recommend purchasing this app, simply because you’re not funding further development. That being said, I would happily pay the purchase price again if the developer were to focus on updating this app with the features originally promised. Ultimately, if the developer is going to let this app fall into obscurity through lack of development, I’d request that they open source it, so the community can continue its development.

The Only Plex Music App That Does What I Want

reiamazing on

This app does everything I need it to do. There's no stupid limits such as only being able to have 24 hours worth of music downloaded from a playlist or my music mixed up like other Plex apps do. This lets me have my playlist the way I have them set up on Plex and there's no limits. It works perfectly and I don't see myself using anything as for my music on Plex.
