Absolutely useless in 2024. Update to Dev Response: if you just read some of the more recent reviews, you would have many of my complaints. Proton Drive is just so far behind, compared to most modern Storage providers. No consistent UI between OS platforms (iOS, Android, Mac, Windoze are all different, even on many of you other products like VPN), no Linux support (I have more functionality between Linux and iCloud, than Linux and Proton Drive). You market Photos backup support on your site, yet I only see it in my Android device. I have tech support responses a year back or more promising this support, yet here we are. Do I need to continue?

As of this writing (June 2024), there’s no Linux desktop client for this cloud storage. Unlike most apps that can be used in a browser at a high quality level, for a cloud storage app, a client has to be native to truly work well. With no desktop Linux support, the mobile app is functionally useless - if you only have one device you can access the syncing on, what is the point, after all? I have no idea if or when they might release a Linux desktop client, but until they do, this app does nothing for me, and the storage space included in a paid subscription to their services is meaningless.

I attempt to sign in with my Proton login, and then prompts like it is logging me in and then prompts “Signing out” and takes me back to login page. I can’t get out of this loop regardless of restarting the app, restarting my phone, deleting and redownloading the app, it’s just stuck.

It would be great to have a photo gallery, with all the pictures stored in my cloud.

I hear good things on the windows side. But in the iOS / Mac world, ProtonDrive is barely enough to upload files to an app predetermined folder and just leave them there. That is if you can get all your files up in a timely and reliable manner. Email is great, VPN is awesome, drive not so much. And waiting 9 months and not one update, doesn’t help it any. Next update must be huge. Seriously, are there any features coming to Proton drive? Since version 1.10 a whole year ago, all we’re getting is this “The latest version contains bug fixes and performance improvements.” That is one whole year without one single feature added.

I love Proton Drive and Mail and VPN etc! However. You guys have got to add a file/folder search feature to Drive on your Apple products and browsers. It’s so frustrating to not be able to search. Make Proton Drive more friendly with Apple’s Files App too. They don’t like each other right now and it’s frustrating. Seriously the closer Drive mirrors OneDrive the more you’ll knock it our of the park. Search is a really basic feature we need!

I came from the tresorit ecosystem. I prefer proton, but here are some things I am missing. 1. I wish I can sort thru which folders I had last uploaded something to. Proton drive doesn’t really do this even if the sorting option for “Last Modified” is there, it actually sorts folders by when the folder was first created. That’s not the same thing. 2. I need to be able to search for files. Proton developers know this and they say they’re working on it but can’t state an ETA when the feature will be live. 3. Uploading directly from one app to another. If someone shares a file to me via signal or whatsapp then I should be able to upload it directly to proton. Instead, devs recommend a workaround of downloading onto the phone, then opening proton, and then choosing a file to upload. Too many steps. Tresorit already has these features. It’s a much more mature product however I am hoping proton can get these implemented soon.

This is a buggy app that has not received and update in 9 months. The app still has issues with offline files, still does not allow access in the files app if you enable biometrics (DEVONthink already solved this), and still sometimes logs me out for no reason. I’ve filed bugs and “it’s being worked on” but is it? There has not even been a bug update in 9 months! The developer says “We are working on on photo backup in beta!” Is there one person working on this at protonmail? You cannot work on photo backup and fix some bugs simultaneously?
