Industry Leading Security Features
Messages are stored on Proton Mail servers using end-to-end encryption at all times and are transmitted securely between Proton servers and user devices. This largely eliminates the risk of message interception.
Zero Access to Your Email Content
Proton Mail's zero access architecture means that your data is encrypted in a way that makes it inaccessible to us. Data is encrypted on the client side using an encryption key that Proton does not have access to. This means we don't have the technical ability to decrypt your messages.
Open-Source Cryptography
Proton Mail's open-source software has been thoroughly vetted by security experts from around the world to ensure the highest levels of protection. Proton Mail only uses secure implementations of AES, RSA, along with OpenPGP, while all of the cryptographic libraries used are open source. By using open-source libraries, Proton Mail can guarantee that the encryption algorithms used do not have clandestinely built-in back doors.
Proton Mail in the press:
“Proton Mail is a Gmail-like email system which uses end-to-end encryption, making it impossible for outside parties to monitor.” Forbes
“A new email service being developed by a group who met at MIT and CERN promises to bring secure, encrypted email to the masses and keep sensitive information away from prying eyes.” Huffington Post

App freeze writing mail and opening

Joakim von And on

Denmark

I’m happy to pay and use proton e-mail. How ever the mail app for iPad has some bugs. 1) When I open the app it only shows the working icon. It has to be reopened before the app shows mails. 2) Writing an e-mail the app freeze, when I switch to other app copying text and return. I hope the bugs can be fixed.

Secure and encrypted email my as

NotoriousTD on

Denmark

Earlier this year, the Spanish police Guardia Civil sent legal requests through Swiss police to Wire and Proton, which are both based in Switzerland. The Guardia Civil requested any identifying information related to accounts on the two companies’ respective platforms. Wire responded providing the email address used to register the Wire account, which was a Protonmail address. Proton responded providing the recovery email for that Protonmail account, which was an iCloud email address, according to the documents. Do not write and lie to us you are a focking secure and encrypted while you sell our information

Best mail service app

Denmark

I’ve been using protonmail for a while now and I find it a very easy to use email app and am very grateful for the extra layers of security and privacy it provides.

Kan ikke logge ind

Flemming T. Hansen on

Denmark

App understøtter åbenbart ikke brugere, der har valgt hardware key som 2FA. Så jeg kan ikke mere logge ind på appen. Jeg må nøjes med at bruge Proton mail fra browser indtil det forhåbentligt bliver fikset

Overall very good - search function so so

Bomberman2000 on

Denmark

Overall very nice. Seamless use of the proton mail service. Similar to the browser. The search function could be better. A lot better. But other than that I’m happy.

Good

Denmark

But would be nice with some formatting-options when writing an e-mail 😊

Love the app but...

Mama_Gun on

Denmark

Great idea, nice app and easy to get around in. However there is a “but” and that is, that the app has a tendency to log out by it self, and from there you can’t log back in coz it refuses too recognise the password. This has happened to me at least 3 times, my first email at proton and now twice with my new email at proton. I been a user for over a year now and all the support team cud tell me ,was a indication to remember my password 🙄🤦‍♀️. Despite a description of the problem with the app and I even had screenshots, but no one seem to be interested in recognising a problem, all I got was telling me to remember my password.🙄 Well duh 🙄..... Next stop for me is tutanota 👋

Sad downgrade

mifanatico on

Denmark

As part of their rebranding they’ve downgraded the free account so much that it doesn’t make sense anymore. It’s really rude, they didn’t say it before doing it.

Latest version horrible slow

Khebbie on

Denmark

The last version is very slow - when opening the app it is irresponsive for many seconds

Settings lost on upgrades

Nit Nats Noc on

Denmark

Every time the App is updated the settings are lost. Pretty annoying.
