I want the developer(s) and owners to know how much I love this app. Thank you for continuing to support it.
Growl is quickly becoming obsolete. Apps are quietly dumping it. I only have a single app that still uses it via a plugin. I’m just glad the server is still working at least. But in every other way this is abandonware.
Most awesome app! Where’s donate button seriously? Love it so much I worry about changes in the in the app str reqs disabling it. Hope dev can keep it going in app str. This is the best non-commercial notification platform and app out there with a very generous rate limit of 1000 API calls per hour and website allows you to create many API keys. API calls to send a push notification uses POST method with the API key in the body of the HTTP request which is more secure than the GET method with the API key directly in the URL which is what most push notification platforms do. Platform is very quick to respond. App works very well. Also I suspect most commercial push notification apps that offer a free limited option are data mining the messages of the users. This developer has a better and mite clear privacy policy on the app’s website. Really hoping dev will be able to keep this app going throughout any changes in the app str. Would like to show support by tapping on a donate/leave a tip button, or through whatever alternative method available.
I feel like I have been using this app for 10yrs. I still am and am still very happy. Like a unix command it does one thing very well. My home automation uses this as its escalation to my phone for out of standard conditions. Thank you to the author for continuing to support!
It’s simple and does what you need it to do. But the app seems to be abandoned over five years ago. I’m doubtful Prowl will be around much longer.
I’ve been using this app for a number of years with my Indigo home automation system. It’s almost indispensable. I’m glad it’s still being maintained.
I use prowl to notify me about local air quality in realtime. It’s great! Apple ought to allow custom sounds for third party app notification. Would be perfect to have arbitrary number of types and user custom sound based on message contents. This change would allow very versatile notifications like voice announcing data inside message etc. Can select 5 different sounds from a preset list of 6. Defaults are solid, but would greatly benefit from even purchased ringtones being available.
Love this capability... wrote a Python script to push notifications from Raspberry pi projects to my phone, works great.
I was able to set it up so that I would receive monitoring alerts (nagios) via IOS notifications using prowl. So far notifications have arrived as quickly (or better) than email->sms.
