Qwant Private Search

This app is a modified Firefox browser, so it has all the features you’ll be used to from that browser. It’s nice to be able to customize the Qwant start page (if you decide to use it) with your personal preferences for appearance as well as function. There’s just one problem: the Qwant search engine is extremely unreliable. Sometimes a search just bombs out with an “unavailable” response, and the “maintenance” downtimes can seem to last forever. Too often I must go to the execrable Google dot com to search while using this app that I downloaded chiefly to stay away from the Don’t Be Evil cult and its increasingly crapified internet utilities. Get it together, Qwant, and make this app a browser alternative for grownups instead of the occasionally nice plaything that it is now.

Ever since I got the new update the app is so glitchy. I search something & click to open it & nothing happens. It won’t open the web page. If I could go back to before this update, I definitely would.

For the most part, this is my 2nd choice chosen search engine for the obvious reason of feeling protected against the onslaught of gathering & storing of my personal information. I can’t say I know if it’s actually 100% safe in that regard, because I notice that when I press a prompt it brings up my search histories even after the website tabs have been closed, but it was only by accident that I figured out that they were there saved. I AM able to delete them, now that I know that they are actually there, but I’m able to do that on regular tracking search engines too soooo… I’m no tech person, so I don’t know all the ins & outs, & if I truly am NOT being tracked, but I still use it as my second choice after DuckDuckGo. That search engine truly doesn’t keep a record of my activity, at least I can’t find it. So I don’t think my review may provide a high degree of tech insight, but it’s (Quant) an effective means to search the web successfully while feeling a measure of protective anonymity based on what others in the field have stated.

It’s basically a non-negotiable at this point, there really is no excuse to not give a built-in ad blocker on the app. Firefox Focus is open-source and does the job. uBlock Origin is an open-source extension that does the ad blocking for you, the Orion Browser app for IOS is able to support it. Its competition, Brave Browser, and by extension, the Brave Search Engine, is both open-source and has a built-in ad blocker. Since both Startpage and DuckDuckGo both have this problem with their apps, I think it would benefit Qwant to find a way to get a built-in ad blocker on their app.

Want unbiased results in this partisan world. Now it’s better, high hopes… made me qualify too often during the SAME session, Hope that’s changed- will update…

Hands down , the best search engine out there. It’s amazing at the difference between search results using google and what you get using Quant. I knew they were gatekeepers but I didn’t realize how bad it had got until I found this app. Thank you Quant for allowing information to flow freely as it was meant to. Please keep it flowing and never sell out ! I’d give it 10 stars if I could

I love this comparison to google with google it seems that my phone is always running and hot even though all my apps and windows are closed my phone is not running now and cool thanks a lot 😊

So I would have given this app five stars, but today they made a change to the app colors/logo on the Home Screen. It’s barely viewable if you have your iPhone set to dark, and I don’t care who uses white or black as the main color on iPhone. It’s an option so the developers should have planned accordingly. So you go to click on it, and it doesn’t open bc there is no visible edge to the logo, sitting there in dark on dark. Seems pretty short sighted.
