They charge you a 3% fee to buy the gift card with your credit card. So anything at or under 3% incentive you are actually losing money. You just as well cut the middle man and write your school a check! Yes there is a direct bank link for a lower fee but with all the hackers and security breaches these days do you really want an online organization tied directly to your bank account? Not me. At least with a stolen credit card I have fraud protection. Quick example I went to buy a gift card for Walmart since we buy all of our groceries there. Incentive is 2.5%. On the $500 gift card I was going to purchase my kids school would earn $12.50 but I end up paying a $15 credit card fee to make the purchase. I just as well give the school $15! Yes some things are a higher percentage, and they sometimes offer bonuses for much higher percentages, but everything I purchase regularly including food and fuel are below the credit card fee percentage. Very disappointing. If you give it a try buyer beware… make sure you take off the processing fee when you are considering how much your fundraiser will receive.
