Description

RealADSB app is intended for stationary observers of local air traffic. It can consume traffic feed generated by adsb_hub or adsb_hub3 server application. With some limitations traffic feed in SBS-1 BaseStation format (port 30003) is also supported. For example Stratux ADS-B device or ADSBx feeder can produce such feed. Another option to get traffic feed is to use Airplanes.live API integration. That could be a good way to start using app because such option doesn't require additional hardware.
You can setup traffic feed yourself or use one of the public feeds covering Germany, UK and New York. adsb_hub server application is using Java runtime and can run on PC, Mac or Raspberry Pi. It can work on top of FlightAware, FR24 feeders or generate feed using cheap USB adapter and external antenna. For more information please check our web site http://www.realadsb.com
Inside mobile app commercial, private and military aircrafts are shown on map or in scrollable list sorted by distance from reference point. It can be your current location or airport defined by ICAO code such as LFPG. When ICAO code entered special button provides access to METAR and aircrafts below transition altitude will have altitude adjusted using barometric pressure of the airport. There is a way to search/filter aircrafts by tail number, callsign, type, altitude in both list and on map. Additionally 2 layers with airports and weather are available on map.
For each airframe following basic parameters shown:
* Speed, Altitude, Heading, Rate of climb/descend, Squawk
and for most of them there is additional information:
* Tail number, Callsign, ICAO type, Origin/Destination, Photo
If information about tail number or type of aircraft is missing you can easily add it right inside the app. This change will be automatically shared across all devices that using same iCloud account.
Other features:
* Quick access to online resources including FlightAware, Google Flights, LiveATC etc.
* Push notifications for special squawks 7500/7600/7700
* Imperial or metric units
* 3 types of map: standard, satellite and hybrid
* Sharing of map with aircrafts using standard iOS Sharing Panel
* Barometric pressure and altitude measured by mobile device conveniently shown at the bottom of main menu

Freeze

I have used this app since it’s inception. I normally connect to my dump1090 feed using the appropriate iPad. I recently downloaded the latest version, and the app freezes once a setting is entered. Very slow connecting and showing aircraft from feed. Possibly the trouble is IOS 16. I now have upgraded my rating to 5. The developer has updated this app and provided many fixes. The addition of OpenSky now enables the use of an airport if to see tracked aircraft at the selected airports, a great addition to the app. I now am able to connect my own dump1090 decoder without ant difficulty.

Love this app. Connects to our FlightAware Raspberry Pi and looks beautiful. Setup was easy and Nikolay has been very responsive to some stability issues we were having.

Very cool

For iOS, this is _THE_ application to get as an ADS-B client. It's a beautiful application, especially in the iPad and there is even a an AppleTV version as well. The developer put tremendous attention to detail into this application and helped me to get the server side up and running on my Mac. Support from the developer is fantastic! It was an error on my behalf, I didn't realize that I had to run rtl_tcp FIRST before running the java hub server. I mistakenly thought that the hub server ran rtl_tcp on its own. I also needed to upgrade to Java8 on my Mac. The developer quickly and very kindly got me going in the right direction and I want to thank him again! Note that the server side can also be Windows based or even Raspberry Pi based as the hub is Java. It supports not only rtl_tcp, but dump1090, PiAware, etc, so it's VERY flexible and customizable. Kudos to the developer for using this component/modular approach! I'll probably move the server side from my Mac to a dedicated Raspberry Pi eventually. I'll also probably even pick up the FlightAware Pro ADS-B dongle (as it amplifies and bandpasses 1090Mhz) for even better receiving. I'm using the (silver) RTL_SDR.COM Blog dongle (with the 10' Omnidirectional antenna outside). It works VERY well, so I can only imagine how amazing FlightAware Pro will be. Perhaps I'll even go another step further and get the $40 ADS-B 1090Mhz antenna. Note that is not necessary (I'm getting very good performance with what I have now), but would take my reception out to MANY hundreds of miles. At that point, I'll make it publicly accessible via the app perhaps. (The app offers P2P servers and you can be one too if you'd like, check website for details on how to contact the developer.) This application is VERY much worth the $10 cost. However, read the website fully if you are new (like I was) to ADS-B. Don't get too intimidated, it's actually at the surface very simple. (It just requires a number of components.). Antenna -> SDR dongle -> RTL_TCP -> ADS-B Hub. Then it is just a matter of regular wifi networking from your iDevice to server (Mac/Win/RPi) and Bob's your uncle. You CAN even port forward (TCP 4567, defined in config file) from your router and access your home setup over the internet. All in all, very cool application, well worth $10, extremely flexible, and outstanding support!

Great App!

Constantly updated by developer. App displays ADS-B transmissions from nearby aircraft (position, airline, altitude, etc) that are depicted on map on iPhone/iPad. Range of receivable air traffic dependent upon antenna used (I routinely pick up signals over a 100nm range using indoor antenna). Developer site has full instructions for setup with links to free interfacing software. As mentioned by developer, you need to own an RTL-SDR USB receiver hardware (many available models-inexpensive online, ~$20, from Amazon, etc) that plugs into a USB port on your Mac (or even Windows) and your computer then becomes the server of air traffic transmissions received via the USB radio receiver. Your iPhone/iPad is the client device for visual display of aircraft in real time. I've set up the receiver server on my local network (easy) and I believe the server can be set up using your IP address for remote access over the internet (with appropriate router configuration and security protocols) but I have not attempted that setup yet. Nice to be able to view traffic on my iPhone and iPad without being a slave to sitting in front of the computer!
