The Sky Pro by Redshift Reviews

Good App

StevieW-pt on

United Kingdom

Have just updated my old Redshift App to this one and I am very pleased with it. Has some big improvements and the basic version is well worth the money. Not so sure about the subscription update and I think it should be a bit more flexible. There are only a couple of features that I would like from the subscription version but they are not worth paying the amount of money being asked to get. I feel that it would be better if we could pick and choose what we want. I only have two criticisms of the App. The first is the size of the moon. Unless you zoom right in, it appears as a bright point in the sky. When I look at the moon in real life it always appears with a face with clearly visible markings. Secondly, the 'Todays Sky' is pretty useless as it shows hardly any information. To me, it should show which planets will be visible and when, moon rise and set plus perhaps the best three or four deep sky objects. You can add the planets to your Favourites which then gives you the above information so why have ‘Today’s Sky' unless it contains more information. So, overall a good, easy to use App and well worth the money.

A worthy upgrade

Love this app and a great fresh new look to Redshift. Only one question developer’s- why are there no rings visible for Jupiter, Uranus and Neptune?

Very angry.

There seems to be 2 versions of this app. I decided to go for the so called “free trial”. The free trial cost £8.99 and is taken out of your account straight away. It appears by going for the trial version you are diverted to actually buying the paid for one. Then you are informed in six days they will take a further £13.49 out of your account. I have managed to [hopefully] cancel the £13.49 subscription. Note to apple. Why is there no zero star as one star implies a minimum 20% rating for a product?

A nice new version

They’ve given the old app a very nice fresh and welcome lick of paint. What I really didn’t like about the last version was that after spending a lot of time customising it to my liking, it would sporadically return all the settings to default which put me off using the app completely in the end. I’m happy to see this issue doesn’t occur in this new version (so far). I like this version enough to consider upgrading to ultimate, but I would like more details about what i’m actually going to get for my money, the website seems to be a bit vague about this. I’m a casual astronomer, I don’t have a telescope which is software compatible and it appears that this is the main benefit of upgrading. Edit: Just seen that a free trial of Ultimate is now being offered, so this has answered my question. However, after accepting the offer i’ve opened the app and there are no noticeable additions, in fact I can’t see any at all ?! Edit: The free trial expired before the fix and I didn’t even get a chance to try the Ultimate version. Email was sent to the developer and I received no reply. I want to see what I’m getting before I upgrade but I cannot use the free trial again. Disappointed! Response to developer comment: I have sent an email stating just that, and I’ve sent a private message on the Facebook group and I haven’t had a reply to either.

Some improvements on original version

deckr8 on

The only improvement I’m likely to use is the improved time forward/reverse wheel. This is far easier to control than the old one. In the old version I could select to show central & neighbouring constellation lines which I cannot do in this new version. I don’t like the delay taken for the constellation lines to appear after the user has stopped scrolling the screen. This slows down the time you can easily recognise the area of sky you are looking for. My main interest is satellite identification. The satellite data base has not improved on the last version. There are other apps out there which are capable of showing far more satellites, as an example satellite Vanguard 1, which does not show on a Redshift search even when the maximum number of objects is selected. Hoping these issues can be corrected in a future update. Thanks for sorting out the constellations in the update. Looking forward to seeing more satellites too please. Also I preferred the Telrad view finder in the old app. (+1*)

Where is the comet?

Grimble_cornet on

Upgraded to the new version to follow the development of Comet C/2019 Y4 Atlas....... predicted to be the most impressive comet for some time. So where is it? The old version allowed me to download ‘observable comets’ and Y4 Atlas was there. The new version downloads ‘historical comets’ but Y4 Atlas is NOT there. So the new version is great if I want to review the historical sky but NOT if I want to view the current top comet? Great...... go back to using the old version and kiss my money goodbye 😡 UPDATE..... Very quick response to my comment and YES, Comet Y4 Atlas has been added to the comet download file. Having now spent some time playing with the new version it does look great and seems smoother than the old version hence my revised star rating. Still not sure if current observable comets will be supported..... seems a bit strange to just concentrate on historical ones? The spacecraft section seems to have disappeared as well..... discovered this when I wanted to check the path of tonight’s ISS pass. Maybe it’s in the extended version?

Not quite ready

I’ve just bought Redshift Sky Ultimate. It says in the help manual that I can get conjunctions and meteor shower information. The app only has eclipse information. But they say they’re fixing it. Otherwise it looks fine.

Käufe wiederherstellen???

MattausNZ on

Germany

Kundenabzocke!!!

Olinho on

Galaxien

Marco0071 on
