It's not a file launcher. It's the feeling of pulling a cartridge off the shelf. A Console You Can Feel Handheld games sit inside a tactile shell with cream-colored plastic, embossed buttons, and a dot-matrix screen framed in greenish black. Every press triggers tuned haptics — light taps on the D-pad, firm clicks on action buttons — so your thumbs know where they are without looking. Rotate to landscape and the shell fills the screen, just like the real thing. The Living Room on Your iPad Plug in a home console game and the screen transforms into a wooden TV cabinet — complete with speaker grilles, a channel dial, glass reflections, and a glowing power indicator. Beneath the CRT bezel, physical-style controls labeled MENU, VOL, and CH line up next to a "RETROVISION" badge. It's a piece of furniture, not a settings panel. Scanlines, Color Filters & Display Modes Toggle CRT scanline effects, apply a warm amber or original green color filter, or switch between the TV shell and a clean fullscreen view. These aren't post-processing gimmicks — they're built into the rendering pipeline with SwiftUI Canvas, tuned to look right at every resolution. Pick Up Where You Left Off The app auto-saves the moment you leave. Come back and tap Resume to drop right into your last session. Four manual save slots per game let you bookmark tough sections or alternate paths. Cheat Codes Built In Enter Game Genie, GameShark, or Action Replay codes and toggle them per game. Codes persist across sessions — set them once and forget. Play Your Way Pair a Bluetooth controller — Xbox, PlayStation, Switch Pro, or MFi — and button mapping adjusts automatically for each console. No controller? On-screen touch controls adapt to the game: SNES diamond buttons for one, PlayStation shapes for another, a virtual analog stick for 3D games. A full keyboard mapping is supported too. What's Inside Retro Handheld is a native iOS app written entirely in SwiftUI, with custom Objective-C and C bridges to open-source cores. Everything is compiled and bundled — nothing is downloaded at runtime. PlayStation games work immediately with a bundled open-source BIOS, no extra files needed. No Data Leaves Your Device No analytics, no tracking, no accounts, no network calls. Your games and saves stay on your device. Period. What You Need This app does not include games.
