How much does Row Forge cost?
Row Forge has several in-app purchases/subscriptions, the average in-app price is £44.49.
I’ve been using RowForge as a subscriber now for 6months. I really enjoy the Signature Workouts that allow you to focus on a different type of fitness goal. I have used the app to help me regain my fitness following Back Surgery. My Personals Bests for 5k and 2k are all improving. All the workouts are named around Viking themes which make things more interesting. Both Wayne and Dr Jay seem very knowledgeable in heart fitness, cardiovascular health, muscular health and mobility. Both post regular videos and tips to help users with goals. I am very optimistic that the app will continue to help me smash my Personal Bests.
Brilliant
I’m so glad they are developing actively once again.
Excellent app, and not for the faint of heart.
If you like your rowing on the stern and rewarding side, Rowforge will not disappoint.
Great app with issues
I have been looking for a good, affordable rowing app for a while and Rowforge definitely fits the bill. The concept and the look and the way it is set up is great however at $9.99 a month (after a free month’s trial) there are a few issues I’d like to see addressed:
i) workouts frequently don’t log, this is VERY frustrating because they are not easy workouts
ii) because of the way concept2 works out average wattage it is near impossible to hit high target wattage even over a medium distance
iii) Difficult workouts are great- we all want a hard workout- but the Rowforge workouts are just too tough even at the lower end. The target wattage, particularly on medium distances (eg on workout two....row 1000 metres at an average 202 watts) are incredibly tough especially if you are having to complete x3 sets for instance. The workouts need to be more manageable at the lower end. I’m pretty fit and I struggled to hit the target wattage on most of the workouts after the first set....this can be pretty de-motivating- apps like this need to give you (very hard earned) success but success nevertheless.
iv) integrated voice coaching to tell you your target wattage and to tell you to row harder or faster, for instance, would really lift this app.
If you are looking for an app to develop your rowing fitness to the next level and can put up with a) the difficulty level and b) workouts not logging then give this app a go.
Fantastic App for fitness
Amazing workouts designed based on the users own ability and VO2 max rating. Supported by science and Dr Kenneth Jay workouts to improve fitness.
Only works for Concept2 Rowers? I have another brand.
RowForge at the moment will be immediately cancelled, if there is no way to connect my Echelon Rower. If there is another remedy please advise.
Disappointed!
Missing features
Doesn't allow for Polar H10 connection to the app nor for Apple Health to rite data (like HR) into the app. So, this does not capture HR data like it should.
Incredibly helpful and challenging
I have been using Row Forge for the last month or so and I have to say, the results have been outstanding! After testing all of the areas from 100m to “The Hour of Power” you can see the specific area needed to improve specific distances or timed rows. You use a few of the many varieties of workouts to focus on that specific area and then after 4-6 weeks working on that area, retest and see your progress.
The conditioning plan helps get new rowers familiar with form and technique over a 6 week period, rowing 5,000m 4 times a week to gradually work towards overall fitness and health.
If you’re looking for HIIT training there are those as well.
The program is completely unique to you, based on your personal profile. It’s incredible and challenges you every workout to improve.
Definitely recommend this app to rowers of all caliber!!
Best Rowing App
Excellent workout routines in this app. A workout for all levels of rowing.
Tap. Row. Go
it’s that easy.
Outstanding app!
UPDATE: Just wanted to reiterate how awesome this app is. It is a self-contained personalized system for maximizing your rowing ability but (MUCH) more importantly- your heart health. By following the mesocycle principles you basically set yourself up for perpetual Improvement, as the app (via your power profile) will show where your strengths and weakness lie across the performance spectrum. It’s brilliant and elegantly simple but brutal all at the same time. The Row Forge team has always been responsive to my inquiries and super helpful as well.
Original review follows: I love this app, I've followed Dr Jay since the RKC days and its great to see the evolution of his research especially since I love rowing anyway! There are plenty of row apps out there but I've never seen one that customizes your targeted watts etc to have you properly chase goals and then it automatically moves your goals for maximum progress. Progressive overload principles executed perfectly! CEO is super responsive to questions which is a big plus! I wish there was a manual explaining how to best use the program and some of the specific principles being used and targeted. I have the cardio code book so I have a general idea but I'd be interested to better understand the most current training philosophy and how to most optimally use the app. But even without that into it's still absolutely fantastic and highly motivating. SKAL!"
Great app
I have never once taken the time to comment on an app but decided to for Row Forge. The program is excellent and has allowed me to get in shape on my own without a trainer. I highly recommend their personalized training system.
