Runestone Text Editor Reviews

An ABSOLUTE ESSENTIAL!

May just be the best text editor to exist on the App Store right now! Bought premium because it’s helped me so much over the months

Great editor, wish I'd found it earlier

Overall this is the best editor I've used on the iPad and represents excellent value for money. The only option I would like is to be able to turn off the auto save feature. I know this is kind of an Apple thing but I still prefer to have an indication that I've modified a file and then chose whether to save or not. Apologies if I've missed an option. Apple should take some inspiration from the file browser which auto connects to servers so much better than the files App.

New bug: Hangs often on startup. No contact info for bugs. Selecting text VERY DIFFICULT

More languages

I love the app but many of the languages I hoped to use it for are missing: assembly (x86, WAT), Objective-C, Kotlin, etc... I would love a feature to add custom or missing languages by defining a list of syntactic rules, a feature I would happily pay for premium to use

Thank you!!!

Thank you so much for open sourcing your app. Much appreciated

The last update introduced a bug.

App version: 1.5.2 iOS version: 17.7.1 When making a new file the save button doesn’t work and sometimes crashes. To replicate, open the app press the + make a file name, choose the extension and press save. The save button recognises the interaction but nothing happens. Otherwise 5 star app! It’s lightweight and good for ideas on the move if I’m not at my computer I can just save it and finish on my computer.

Meh

Half of the features are behind a paywall. The main reason I wanted this app was for syntax highlighting and horizontal scrolling, however the latter was only in premium. Even without that, when I created a Python file and pasted in some code that used to live in my notes, for some reason pressing backspace would immediately crash the app, not allowing me to do any editing or move forward. Please fix this. Update: it’s now magically fixed.

Good, but lacks good YAML support

I just downloaded it, and it works really well for the things I’ve tried do far, except YAML. It doesn’t keep the indent level on new lines and it doesn’t support tabs for indenting. These bugs aren’t so bad, but I find them very annoying when I’m trying to write YAML files with any sort of indenting. I don’t really mind the part about tabs, but it’s very hard to use without it automatically indenting lines according to previous ones, which seems to me like a very basic requirement. Other than that, its a very good app for text editing, Plain and Code alike.

How do you run code on an iPad?

I can’t figure out how to run the code for the text editor. Can it be run from the files app in Ipad (if it locate the editor)? Edit: Don’t take the rating seriously, I literally just downloaded this app so I can’t form an opinion.

Great app!

Great app for editing markdown files on iPad, which has become the keystone app for my new blog! 😄
