Too many restrictions
This app is a rip off. There are too many restrictions for users who can’t afford to pay for the expensive subscription. Also, just like all the so called “gay dating apps” it promotes gender ideology, which is a gross exploitation of gay men given how homophobic many aspects of this ideology are.
Straight-acting
Problematic app promoting white masculine ideals, i.e. facial and body hair. Most Woof’d section is a veritable display of gay white privilege. My profile was suspended without warning on grounds of impersonation, while using my own words and photos. Who would want to impersonate a scruff-less Asian person on this app? They could have asked me to verify my identity but no, let’s just ban an Asian person from equitable usage of this app.
Becoming more and more like Grindr every day
Australian consumer law actually forbid having to pay to block someone on a social app yet Scruff seem to think they can get away with flouting the law. How is it even with the subscription You still get pop up adds Every time you change your screen? When my subscription runs out? I won’t be renewing and will be deleting the app. You’ve lost me.. and don’t bother sending a reply to message Scruff help Centre I’ve done that once and never even bothered getting a reply from you people.
Stop shoving BKDR.com down our throats
The BKDR.com ad comes up, click X, the moments back yet. I was abused in that site and it is causing me trauma every time I see it. Please respect me when I click X and keep yhe ad away from me.
Rubbish
It’s Rubbish, you have too Pay too Adjust the Age Search. I’ve since Deleted it
Advertising needs some better inclusion
All I've seen recently are muscly hunks in the ads that we can't actually get rid of despite the "X" in the top right corners (they just pop on back up like that thing I caught back a few years ago). People are already self-conscious as it is, selling us whatever you're peddling with glimmering, glistening abs, with pouting lips and stares only in each other's eyes is kinda disheartening? Diversity, that's all I'm suggesting.
Avoid.
Having to ‘pay to block’ people is a dangerous feature. This means that you’re essentially bombarded with creepy unhinged messages from needy types who won’t take no for an answer. *Online safety is a basic right (not an extra’s feature that is paid for). Additionally, single/partnered ratio is pretty terrible. This is basically an app for partnered gays who’re seeking expensive couple nights with other partnered gays. I was very bored… and deleted.
Mostly good, albums and ‘for me’ functionality lacking
A lot of good things about the app, especially as a paid member.
Support is pretty dismal, I asked how to share an album OTHER THAN the default Private album, and just got a copy and paste response on how to share the Private album. That’s not what I asked at all. Can you even share any of the personal albums? If not, what is the point? Might as well just use the album on my phone.
Also what’s the point in marking someone ‘not for me’? It has no value as it doesn’t do anything.
as a straight human
close this app
Okay but some problems.
Better than many of the alternatives.
- Limited number of blocks for free users is a safety issue.
- Additional monetisation features like paying $12 to appear at the top of the grid for two hours detract from the overall experience and utility, and comes across as desperate from the users as well as the platform.
