Drawing from millions of wildlife observations on iNaturalist, Seek shows you lists of commonly recorded insects, birds, plants, amphibians, and more in your area. Scan the environment with the Seek Camera to identify organisms using the tree of life. Add different species to your observations and learn all about them in the process! The more observations you make, the more badges you’ll earn!

This is a great app for families who want to spend more time exploring nature together, and for anyone who wants to learn more about the life all around them.

KID-SAFE

Seek does not require registration and does not collect any user data by default. Some user data will be collected if you choose to sign in with an iNaturalist account, but you must be over 13 or have your parents permission to do so.

Seek will ask permission to turn on location services, but your location is obscured to respect your privacy while still allowing species suggestions from your general area. Your precise location is never stored in the app or sent to iNaturalist unless you sign in to your iNaturalist account and submit your observations.

Our image recognition technology is based on observations submitted to iNaturalist.org and partner sites, and identified by the iNaturalist community.

Seek is part of iNaturalist, a not-for-profit organization. Seek was made by the iNaturalist team with support from the California Academy of Sciences, the National Geographic Society, Our Planet on Netflix, WWF, HHMI Tangled Bank Studios, and Visipedia.

After downloading app after app (8, 10 of them), all wanted me to commit to $10/ week in order to use the ‘free’ plant identifier app,  i was thrilled to find Seek.  It properly identified trees, weeds and insects and worked flawlessly even though my pics were sometimes less than perfect.  Well done.

Everything seems to come up as a Dicot. 8 out of 10 plants are ‘belongs to the dicot family’. I scanned my dog and she was identified as a cedar waxwing. 😞

### *---- "Bye, Seek - RIP iNaturalist"
I am so disappointed and angry about iNaturalist partnering with Google to add AI. Removing my positive review and deleting the app, which I've used and recommended since it was first released. 

The idea that the volunteer, unpaid contributions from this huge community of scientists are going to be used to fuel AI is unconscionable. Google's AI is a massive contributor to mistaken identifications of everything from plants to toxic fungi. 

And that's apart from the massive environmental cost, which is quite literally fueling destruction of ecosystems in my home province. All this to help Google of all companies profit off an unsustainable business model. 

Bye, Seek. Bye, iNaturalist. Deleting it all and going back to my books. Shame on you.

Almost all plants are DICOTs.  I scan many common plants and they still come up as dicots.  Removing the app.

### ****- "Best App Ever TRUST"
Y’all this is actually my favourite app. I’m always using it to identify insects and trees and plants and it always works and gives you really good information about them. I used it to identify what i thought was a spider but was actually a giant tick and that literally saved my dog and cat. Seek is actually so cool!!!!

A beautiful app to that reminds me that there is magic and beauty all around. 
Has much potential to reconnect people with nature and get people interested in botany who may not have otherwise. 
Not always accurate, but this will only improve with time, and this app is mainly a gateway to deeper discovery and curiosity about the mysteries of life.

I kinda wish that you are able to identify dinosaurs, but I’m scared it won’t recognize them. Maybe do an update that will make the app able to identify dinosaurs by paleoart and fossils

Not only will the image recognition blatantly miscategorize very clear images of a species, getting it to identify most fungi is impossible. And even worse you can’t put in ones you’ve identified yourself, like it needs an “I promise it’s this one!” button, because it’s unsure about a lot of species

The app can sometimes require too perfect of a shot. Even if you are given the exact species, it asks to take another picture from a different angle/lighting. Would be better if it could identify the closest species and allowing people to choose the correct one. Good app other than that

The concept behind this app is great. And when it works, it’s really helpful to identify plants/animals/insects. Lately, more often than not, it won’t identify anything. And if it does, any pics I take can’t be saved.

I love the missions and the badges. It helps me go on adventures with my dog, kind of in the same way Pokémon Go did for me as a teenager. Unfortunately it takes so much time to decide what the thingy is, and then it’s been only 60% correct. It could only say that my Australian Shepherd was a two toed ungulate 🤣🤣.

I have a collection of bugs I am trying to identify that are sitting on a particular plant. The app will not recognize the insects. Only the plant. Maybe there should be an option to select what portion of environment we as users are trying to identify, to avoid this issue.

I recommend this app to everyone and anybody who loves nature !!!! It’s super fun easy to use and helps you get out of the house !!! To explore the little things you haven’t noticed in life yet !!! Iv had this app for over 2 years and still use it til this day!!!! It also has a side app called iNaturalist which I also have which is part of seek where you can upload your pictures to help nature nerds study the plant of ware it’s located!!! There’s also challenges every month on seek!!! best part … ITS FREE AND THERE IS 0 I SAID SAID IT ZERO ADS which is so nice and you don’t need wifi or data to scan plants in the middle of no where !!!!
