Description

Measure angles and align objects viewed through the camera. SeeLevel also includes a distance/height estimation tool and traceable level.
With SeeLevel you can for example:
- Find the angle relative to the horizon (like a sextant)
- Get the vertical line to the ground (like a plumb)
- Estimate the tilt of objects in the distance
- Calculate the height of, or distance to, an object (Inclinometer).
- The unit of the input and output distances are always the same so you can use any unit you wish (meter, feet, yards etc)
- Use it as a conventional level, independent of the camera
- Zoom in the measured object to improve accuracy
- If your device has a front camera you can use it to measure the level from the ground or use it as an inverted plumb.
USER FEEDBACK:

Simple, effective and finally offering a clinometer with percentage. Very good, I can recommend it.

It is easy to use and effective for many types of measurements (angle, height, distance). The interface is uncluttered and very clear. Good job.
TychoMoon, France

Very good idea that works very well.

I work for satelite co. and this is 'bout the best visual inclinometer I've come across, and yes my boss does like it, especially on how close the accuracy is compared to a Suunto Tandem.

NOTE: Requires a device with a camera. i.e. compatible with all iPhones, iPod Touch 4 and iPad 2.

SeeLevel Reviews

App is apparently abandoned

AA7R on

I got SeeLevel a week ago. The inclinometer, for which I bought the app, does not work. The inclination always reads NAN, even after an apparently successful calibration. For you non-computer folks, NAN means not-a-number and indicates that the inclinometer, at least, is seriously broken. I emailed the app’s author through the link in the Apple App Store explaining the problem but it’s been a week with no reply. The app has not been updated in 4 years. I have an iPhone 12 running IOS 15.3 so maybe I shouldn’t be surprised the app doesn’t work. My bad for not suspecting this before I bought the app. If you run similar hardware or IOS version buying this app is like throwing your money in the street. If I get an app update that fixes the problem I’ll revisit this review.

Great for backcountry ski

App is fast, interface is simple. Aim and read the angle, just what you want for skiing.

User guide is useless

Not intuitive and user guide doesn’t help.

Excellent app for height estimating

Bob-Stallings on

I got this to be able to measure tree height for a new hobby of finding champion trees. The cost of a good clinometer is a bit much for a hobbyist. I bought a tripod adapter for my iPhone, which is a necessity for accurate results. You can not accurate results trying to hand hold. To verify the accuracy, I measured the ground to soffit height of the roof of my house which was exactly 26’9” using a Leica Distometer laser. This app measured it at 26.7’ which is basically equivalent( less than 1” difference) I used an iPhone 6s with a tripod about 30’ away from the house on sloping ground. It is simple to use, but not intuitive, so read the guide.

Great app!

I use the inclinometer frequently for hiking trail building and design. Easier to use and sufficiently accurate for everything but actual transit required accuracy. The level functionality is outstanding!

Fulfills needs

This app replaces a $200 clinometer fairly well. I have had a couple glitches, but all in all I am very satisfied

Good Inclinometer Functions App

This app is just what I was looking for. In addition to measuring the angle of the phone, you can use it to measure the height of a vertical object if you know the distance to the base, or you can measure the distance to an object of a know height. The app does all of the trig automatically. You view the object through the camera, and it displays the level horizon on the screen along with the angle or height above or below level. So you can measure the height of an object where the bottom is below your eye level and the top above, just add the two numbers. If there is one problem, it is that the gyro chip in my 5s seems to not be as accurate with the phone held vertically as it is laying flat. You can calibrate it in the app, but I can't seem to get mine better than about 1.5 degrees. So if you view a distant object that you know to be at eye level, it may show level horizon to be above it. This doesn't seem to ruin the height or distance measurements because the angle error is the same at the top and bottom of the object. But if you need angle from a true horizon, it might not be accurate enough. Maybe the chip in the 6 and 7 are better.

Solar Slope

So I'm attempting to put in tracking solar arrays on a sloped hill. I need to know the angularitys of the sun from East to West and on the south. I view the east west and southern tree lines to know how many trees I need to take out. This app is awesome.
