Description

Session is a new breed of private messenger, built on a unique network of user-operated servers spread all over the world. With no central servers, Session can’t leak or sell your data. And with Session’s private routing protocols, your messages are completely anonymous. No one ever knows who you’re talking to, what you’re saying, or even your IP address.
• Fully anonymous account creation: No phone number or email needed to create an Account ID
• Decentralised server network: No data breaches, no central point of failure
• No metadata logging: Session doesn't store, track, or log your messaging metadata
• IP address protection: Device IP addresses are never exposed to the person you're talking to or the servers holding your data
• Closed groups: Private, end-to-end encrypted group chats for up to 100 people
• Secure attachments: Share voice snippets, photos, and files with Session's secure encryption and privacy protections
• Free and open-source: Don’t take our word for it — check Session's code yourself
Session is free as in free speech, free as in free beer, and free of ads and trackers. Session is built and maintained by the OPTF, Australia’s first privacy tech not-for-profit organisation. Take back your online privacy today — download Session.

Session Reviews

Giving a 1 star in the hope for resolve!

Guys, the app in general, the UI, the code.. you’re onto something potentially great here. But Christ ol mighty, you need to fix the bugs and the lag. Even using the latest iOS on the newest phone, with perfect WiFi.. there’s still problems. Main one being, the communities… if I click on + to go to ‘join community’ it gives the option to ‘enter community url’ - or it states below, ‘join one of these’ Now the problem is, none of this work, I get a swirling loading symbol with no communities suggested, and the link that my friends on session are apart of, the error message “sessionutilitieskit.networkerror error 13” comes up. So yeah guys, please pay attention to some suggestions that are raised. The app could be great, but without a smooth running of it, it’s no use and pretty much unusable! I hope I can come back in a month or two and the bugs, and lag is gone. And this will be a 5 star app!

Love the app…. But.

The Session app is currently (Jul 2024) suffering from a DOS attack, and that’s a sad reality worldwide, these days. Morons seem to be everywhere. The thing is, the bugs that plague this app also never get squashed. If I could code, I’d put in some time and help out.. but I can’t code. The devs should get their act together, because a working Session app is in their interest too. We all like privacy, don’t we? If it wasn’t for the bugs, this app would be great. I’ll stick with it, because it’s better than the competition. I know… I’ve tried most of them. Not that this app is actually loading any messages right now. It’s stopped collecting them, due to the DOS attack. Stop squabbling and get coding. Please.

Videos and pictures do not send

Extremely frustrating. Happens to everyone of my contacts. Videos and pictures do not send Cut my losses in the end and now use a different app. It’s a shame because it could be really good

Love the app, but…

Photos and videos are 50/50 about sending, and most of the time never load, so when i’m messaging people and someone sends a picture i’m either waiting multiple hours for it to show up or it never ends up working. Pleaseee fix this!

Few improvements needed!

This app needs the option of increasing the text size, it’s very hard to read at times, maybe my old eyes! Also need a better way of seeing that messages are read, like the blue ticks on WhatsApp. Voice calls never seem to work or connect? Overall good for messaging but needs some improvements.

Horrid

Voice messages, photos and videos do not send at all and its pissing me off. Fix the app

Would be a good app if it worked properly

Constant crashes prevent using the app properly. Also assuming because it reroutes through several countries messages and images take forever to send and quite often fail.

Care. It’s 5 Eyes Accesible

You cannot trust this unfortunately I don’t believe. It is based in Australia. Australia has intrusive privacy destroying laws. It will fawningly provide your information to 5 eyes participating nations who request it. Caveat emptor.

Been great.

Update- Feb 2024. Notifications are still not reliable. It’s a great app and concept and I love everything about it- but I can’t rely on it with the kids- we can send messages and they don’t get a notification, or they send to us and we don’t get notifications. I don’t like WhatsApp but if I send a WhatsApp message I know it has definitely been delivered and the notifications are working. I am desperate for this app to improve especially around reliability. 2022 -Have been using a while now but notifications in iOS are unreliable with some messages not notifying us or just nothing happening until the app is opened. Needs a fix.
