Description

Signal is a messaging app with privacy at its core. It is free and easy to use, with strong end-to-end encryption that keeps your communication completely private.
• Send texts, voice messages, photos, videos, GIFs, and files for free. Signal uses your phone’s data connection, so you avoid SMS and MMS fees.
• Call your friends with crystal-clear encrypted voice and video calls. Group calls supported for up to 40 people.
• Stay connected with group chats up to 1,000 people. Control who can post and manage group members with admin permission settings.
• Share image, text, and video Stories that disappear after 24 hours. Privacy settings keep you in charge of exactly who can see each Story.
• Signal is built for your privacy. We know nothing about you or who you’re talking to. Our open source Signal Protocol means that we can’t read your messages or listen to your calls. Neither can anyone else. No back doors, no data collection, no compromises.
• Signal is independent and not for profit; a different kind of tech from a different kind of organization. As a 501c3 nonprofit we are supported by your donations, not by advertisers or investors.

And it works fine. You can’t take that for granted with privacy respecting apps.

Just add an in-app purchase and get rid of that annoying banner.

This app doesn’t want to know anything about you so only use it if you don’t want problems.

This THE BEST and only 100% private messenger

thtallis on

Bulgaria

This THE BEST private messenger ever - forget Telegram, Wickr etc. The technological design of Signal is built to be 100% private and secure from the very beginning with full data encryption, incl. your metadata and without the need to switch to some special “secure chat” mode (Signal set up the global encryption). It also strips the links you send from their trackers too (which other app does this?). Moreover, your messages are delivered instantly (on Telegram you have to wait for minutes to hours). The quality of audio and video calls is perfect. And there are no limitations on your attachment sizes etc. too. Your chats are NOT stored anywhere else than on your physical phone. Hence spying and profiling is impossible and it’s not a matter of trust but rather of technical design (do not stupidly trust WhatsApp, Messenger, Viber etc. - check out who owns them). Signal is owned by a foundation (which cannot be put up for sale) and not by a commercial giant who will spy on you and sell your data to advertisers and governmental agencies. Recently they have added a lot of additional customisation options so you won’t miss the fun part of chatting (although I personally prefer minimalism which you get here). It’s focused on 1-1 or group chats - that’s it and you don’t need more. If you like Instagram like stories, you have them here too btw. Do you need anything more to communicate with your friends, family and business partners? I don’t think so…

App too large in size

How could a chat app be over 120 MB? Also, why the app stops working if you don’t update it in a while. Consider an older phone or one with a small storage that just can’t update. Why do you break the app on purpose?

Remove the phone number requirement!

This whole Twilio incident stresses even more that you got to remove this requirement. You claim that you are protecting our privacy but you still want our phone numbers. WTF! Come on!
