First the good news, great graphics, atmospheric and good game play but the game gets confused as to where things are! For instance attacking a formation of 3 merchant ships, sank two one left stopped so use the map to steer to it and finish it off. No problem with navigation but can’t see the ship, look BEHIND and there it is! Range is going down but I am going ahead! Also although map shows ship ahead I have to use stern tubes to hit it! Have also experienced having a cruiser viewed through periscope showing range increasing so why is it suddenly getting bigger? Bang! Most annoying though is a bug which means the attacking ships are not where shown on the map and when you dare to 'up periscope' to look, the distances shown are wrong. Invariably you end up getting hit by a destroyer which suddenly appears on top of you while the display shows it to be still 1.5km away. For example, the control above the engine speed control is often hit when moving the sight so changing the power setting inadvertently. It is possible to end up 'stuck' with no battery charge and 4 flooded engines so only way out is to restart the game. The one third and two third power settings are way too slow. Needs more work. IMHO PS What the hell is 'sm' on the target range display and if it's 'miles' then it's way out on the visibility estimates in yards when a target is detected. PPS What are there no friendly/allied ships on these seas? PPS The torpedo track on the map display is intermittent. PPPS The view in the surface sight is sometimes blocked by the conning tower. PPPPS There are sometimes some VERY odd ships laying on their sides and stationary but they cannot the targeted with either torpedos or the surface gun. Good game, not great - yet." Really like this, reminds me of the old Silent Service game from the early 90's. Still don't think the saving works well on this update. Every time I go to 'continue game', I end up in a different sub from last time. Not entirely sure how you actually get a medal? Graphics are good, not amazing but still fine. The odd problem with game play. I'd like to see updates to the subs and weapons as the war goes on, along with having the game mirror WW2 in the Pacific. To summarise though, it's a decent game and all credit to the creators. There's no adds or expensive add ons. In fact, no need to purchase anything. I too am playing this on the smallest iPhone and I still think it is a fantastic game. Good graphics, good use of physics and a strong historical context. You will need to decide how long you can stay on the surface to conserve your batteries and then when to dive to avoid detection as you creep up on your target. If you get it wrong and there is a destroyer about, be prepared for the whistle of shells flying over you as you dive. Use the deck gun to conserve torpedoes, but it will take some experience and skill as you deal with the roll and pitch of your submarine in the water.
