Simply Learn Tagalog Reviews

Good, but one thing

I honestly think this app is great for learning Tagalog, but I did want to point something out, based on my own personal preference. I’ve noticed this app is mainly based on clicking English terms to see the Tagalog translation. Then you take the quiz after. I have tried this, but it’s just not intriguing me enough. I believe the learning process of not just Tagalog, but any language, should spark an individual’s interest. So maybe consider adding mini games or short stories to make the learning process more fun? Also I’ve noticed not much time is spent on a certain topic.

Some weird translations, probably not from a native or fluent speaker. Google translate na lang..

Awkward Phrases

So... I just wanted to check this app out cuz I’m a Filipino immigrant currently residing in America and I wanted to strengthen my vocabulary as I’m starting to forget my native tongue. When I started out here, I noticed that the words and like phrases are kinda awkward. Some words like “pakiusap, kung maaari magsalita ng mabagal?” It actually seems like a direct translation to “please speak more slowly.” Nobody really says the word “Pakiusap.” Because like if you’re saying that, it’s like you are asking someone a favor, it doesn’t really mean please. Also if you really want to ask someone to speak slowly you say “Pwedeng bagalan mo ang pagsasalita mo po?” We don’t really have the word please in our vocabulary, although sometimes we do mix in the English word please in our sentences. Another note, the word, “po” is like a way of making the sentence sound more polite especially to elders, people who are older than you, and to strangers. Po for ending sentences. There’s also another word which is opo, it’s like a more polite way of saying yes. The informal way though is “Oo” and you address that to like your friends and stuff. So yeah. I get that this is a free app, but it’ll be more helpful to others if you like fix some of the phrases and stuff. Cuz they seem a little too awkward and directly translated from English, which is not good.

Easy peasy

Just go through each list and save your favorite stuff and then practice the little stuff you can do until you’re done with the list, then just click the quiz and it will get you all the way to your ability to know what it means!!! Very fun and easy way to learn Tagalog!
