The children we have used the app with were more willing to complete the oral motor exercise routine when using the app versus just following the Speech Therapist's instructions." Bridging Apps.com Oral motor skills refer to the skills needed for basic functions such as eating and speaking. The muscles in the mouth, jaw, lips and tongue are responsible for smiling, facial expressions, and even swallowing. We know that in order to practice these skills effectively, children need to follow basic directions involving movements of the muscles in their mouths. Children with Apraxia of Speech, Down syndrome or craniofacial anomalies many times experience difficulties with their oral motor skills. Smart Oral Motor is a fun and engaging application for children who need a little more entertaining when practicing their oral motor skills. Clever, the duck, provides auditory and visual cues for practicing several oral motor exercises such as: -Puckering lips -Making an “o” with the mouth -Sending a kiss -Moving tongue to sides -Puffing cheeks -Touching cheeks using the tongue -Moving the tongue up and down This application includes a total of 15 oral motor exercises, auditory information and fun animations. Parents and therapists have the ability to adjust the number of repetitions per movement as they please. This application does not replace the need for a full evaluation by a licensed professional such as an occupational therapist or a speech therapist. Therapists will evaluate and provide full guidance on how to best use this application. If parents are working with their therapists in trying to develop a home program for their child, this can be one very user friendly and engaging resource. ## Smart Oral Motor Screenshots - [Screenshot 1](https://is1-ssl.mzstatic.com/image/thumb/Purple111/v4/4d/3a/d8/4d3ad82f-5072-9335-1be3-d46a397cfa70/pr_source.png/2208x1242.png) - [Screenshot 2](https://is1-ssl.mzstatic.com/image/thumb/Purple111/v4/e5/4a/b2/e54ab2a9-8f6d-2563-082c-39819f05963e/pr_source.png/2208x1242.png) - [Screenshot 3](https://is1-ssl.mzstatic.com/image/thumb/Purple111/v4/7d/96/10/7d96109c-37f3-689e-5d2f-91418dd19fac/pr_source.png/2208x1242.png) - [Screenshot 4](https://is1-ssl.mzstatic.com/image/thumb/Purple122/v4/37/4b/97/374b9723-801b-cf1a-38a2-91c1e680aa19/pr_source.png/2208x1242.png) - [Screenshot 5](https://is1-ssl.mzstatic.com/image/thumb/Purple111/v4/0d/01/80/0d01805f-2551-11dd-04db-d6cce9e3735b/pr_source.png/2208x1242.png) ## Smart Oral Motor Rating Breakdown in United States - 5 stars: 14 (31%) - 4 stars: 6 (13%) - 3 stars: 4 (9%) - 2 stars: 6 (13%) - 1 stars: 15 (33%) ## Smart Oral Motor Reviews in United States ### *---- "Not interactive, waste of $" This is just a duck and a picture of a mouth making sounds. There is no interaction with the app at all. My non-verbal 5yo looked at it for less than a minute before losing interest. -- shinyd406, 2022-10-24 ### *---- "Blank screen" Bought for my grandson, and the app doesn’t even work. When opening up the app it is just a blank white screen. -- jenny-0607, 2022-10-09 ### *---- "App doesn’t work anymore" I tried several times and it doesn’t work. It goes blank when you click the app to open it. Please, fix it! -- saraithl, 2021-02-15 ### *---- "Not worth it" This app is cheesy and not interesting at all. There should be a way to get your money back for apps you are dissatisfied with. As a birth to three SLP, I know I will never use this app. Very disappointed. -- SLP Kate, 2016-10-14 ### *---- "Not worth the investment." I was hoping to provide a fun alternative to a five year old patient's exercise regime with this app however we were both disappointed. First, I could not get this app to switch to a horizontal IPad and the vertical position cut out some of the screenshot. Second, I could not scroll through the exercise tabs. Third, I will agree that the duck's lips and tongue movements did not provide enough of a visual prompt. It simply wasn't worth the price. -- Cates Hill, 2016-06-08 ### **--- "I wish I had time to make a good one..." A duck does not have lips, so this app does not really give the child a good visual model. A duck’s bill is naturally round and that makes it difficult to tell the position of the mouth. I was desperate to find an oral motor app for kids and this was disappointing. Not only do I not like the duck, the duck performs the exercise once and then pops off the screen. It needs to repeat until the child has joined in and the therapist taps it off. My kids watch it and don’t join it b/c it disappears AFTER they know what to do. It was a nice idea, but poorly executed. -- Twirly Girl1, 2015-04-23 ### ****- "Good oral motor app for preschool" I just started using this app with 3,4, & 5 year olds. It is very easy to follow and makes exercises fun! It also makes data collection easy! -- jillsmay21, 2013-11-07 ### ***** "Awesome" This is a fantastic app for learning oral motor exercises. Must have. Also great to recommend to parents. -- Mrsalexstewart, 2013-08-25 ### **--- "Eh...." Eh.... This is priced too high! The quality is cheesy and the wording is poor when giving directions. Hopefully someone else will create an OM app of higher quality. I wish I could return this and get my $ back! -- Ms. Speechie, 2013-04-29 ### *---- "Disappointed" Really wish I had read reviews. There's no way to go back to main page in the middle of the duck giving instructions so you have to listen to them each time. You also cannot go back in the middle of a production if done. It doesn't allow you to keep track of appropriate productions or vice versa. Really wish I could have my money back or at least get another app for the waste on this one! -- Mitchhazel, 2013-01-17 [View all Smart Oral Motor reviews and detailed analytics on AppTail](https://app.apptail.io/signup?utm_campaign=ai-crawl&utm_content=reviews) ## Smart Oral Motor Store Rankings | Chart | Country | Category | Rank | |-------|---------|----------|------| | Top Paid | South Africa | Education | #7 | ## Apps Similar to Smart Oral Motor -
