How much does Sofa cost?
Sofa has several in-app purchases/subscriptions, the average in-app price is $22.49.
every day since i’ve starting using Sofa i’ve had a new problem.
- item in pinned list gets randomly duplicated into a list (that i never made) called “My List”, which causes app to crash when trying to open pinned list.
- syncing issues: i’ve had to backup and re-import two separate backups in this last week because the app will just refuse to sync specific entries
- slowdown: my iphone 13, ipad air 4th gen, and macbook pro m3 pro all had slowdown especially when editing many entries in a row, to the point where using the app felt extremely sluggish and annoying (imagine hitting the back button after editing something and having to wait five seconds before returning to it’s respective list)
visuals/ux are great. but these issues are killing the experience for me, and i’m one or two more issues away from asking for a refund.
THE 🐐’d DT TRACKER..☝🏽just one thing!
I love this idea as a possible super sofa feature, the ability to add a notification at a set time, I have an automation but having the notification to track or to remind about a specific movie or Tv show you wanted to watch at a certain time would make this app both a tracker and a program.
Perfect for Movies, Books, and More!
I keep track of all my movie watching for myself, with my spouse, and with the kids. All with different tags and lists so when we’re ready to watch something it’s easy to find something! I also love tracking my books read in Sofa.
Free Vs Paid
I feel that this app is very useful without the subscription and was delighted that the experience wasn’t compromised by my lack of funds. I will be upgrading to an annual subscription as I feel that this is an app that I will continue to use for the foreseeable future. My only issue is that many of the books and plays I have tried to add don’t come up on the search function so I have to create a custom addition quite frequently. I wish there was a larger search library but I don’t know enough about apps to complain and this one has served me well enough to be fine putting in a little work for my own organization.
My most used app on my iPhone
I use Sofa each and everyday to track all my downtime activities and have for the past 5+ years. The developer is incredibly responsive and has provided incredible updates over the years that have made the app better and more useful. If you enjoy tracking your downtime or keeping track of what you do for fun then definitely give Sofa a try!
Update review
Love the new update! It’s awesome you made it more customizable so people can have a choice if they want simple or complex lists.
For me, I like my lists to be a bit of both. What would make it even better is if there was a way to edit the metadata so I don’t always have to create a custom because some of the metadata is missing or there’s no cover showing. This seems to happen mostly for Asian tv dramas so I’m forced to create a custom instead of being able to edit anything after adding it from the search database.
Also, it would be great if tv shows could show how many episodes there are in a season and track which episode has been released and such. Would also be nice if there’s a way to add bulk items to lists, so you aren’t having to add them one by one. Takes too much time, especially when I have a lot of tv shows to add. But other than that, I have loved sofa 4.0 and can’t wait what else you do with it!
Need to take time to understand
4.0 introduced more functionality but with that came complication.
I don’t need all the advanced features and I think now I’ve finally got it configured to work for me.
Still some tweaks I’d like :
1. Manual reordering of items within a list
2. The ability to swipe between lists
It’s meta data look up is amazing and turns this into a rich list maker just need those couple of pieces mentioned above to fully fit my needs.
Disappointing update
I’ve been a fan of sofa for a while but I think the recent 4.0 update was a huge step backwards.
They added more flexibility to track anything in anyway but it made the app feel less purposeful for tracking tv and movies.
I would have much rather seen more opinions about how to make this the best tv and movie tracker and instead we got a soft of notion replacement?
Excellent But…
It is excellent, clean UI, easy to use, and offers a lot in regards to many apps which usually only account for one sort of entertainment medium.
The only thing it’s missing to be the best app of all time is a select random button.
I love being able to see a wall of things I want to see, but now it’s about not wanting to choose lol. The only thing this app lacks compared to most other downtime organization apps, watchlist apps etc. Is that function.
Fun, useful app with great developer support
Apple rightly highlighted the Sofa app as an editors’ choice. I use it almost everyday and happily subscribed right away. After the big 4.0 update, I ran into a problem based on the idiosyncratic way I had been using the app to that point. I emailed the developer, and Shawn responded to me the next day with a couple of helpful suggestions, which got me back on track. Excellent!
