Unstable

Won’t even stay open on iPad 7 as of late!

Good paper

Balla猩猩 on

Canada

Every single paper and word has been controlled by the center government( it could be communism or anything else what they wanna it to be) but that still can not stop Chinese to seeking a way to speak the truth.

Ads are overbearing

farfar888 on

Canada

I appreciate that news media needs to find ways to make money but these ads that blast out over the phone’s speakers are overbearing.

Good to see both sides of the story

xrdeem on

Canada

With all the talk in the western media of a US - China Cold War it’s nice to see both sides of the story. It’s also a good way to realize that the media is just a game of winning people’s opinions in order to justify a cause.

Chinese controlled media

Alex w s on

Canada

All of Asia accept south China post as a communist controlled and influenced media outlet. Beware of these reviews, this media outlet is not where you should get news if you’re looking for truth.

Stop advertising your new team by force

Whydoweneedthisshit on

Canada

Did you really have to put a GIANT BANNER in EVERY NEWS ARTICLE to advertise your new morning studio? The space literally covers a quarter of the phone display and ruins reading experience. Terrible work SCMP. Idiotic layout. Seriously considering deleting app now

Lots of Information💕

I use this to catch up with news about the Hong Kong protest, which is quite useful as there are multiple entries and text about the protest! Keep up the good work!

SCMP listened to my review

mangoeric on

I’ve been using the app for a few years. In early 2019 SCMP changed the layout making it difficult to use en enjoy as mush. I wrote to SCMP to convey my review. And to my surprise they actually replied back afterwards inviting me to return, I just did and it’s back to perfect, easy reading and important news of the world and Asia at my fingertips. Thanks SCMP.

Restored to Its Former iPad Glory!!

UPDATE: 2019-05-25 Thank you. Thank you! THANK YOU!!! Thank you for restoring this app to being one of THE best iPad news apps in the App Store. It’s glorious. And, it’s back to deserving FIVE (5) STARS. UPDATE: 2019-04-18 NONE (0) of the updates since this new version was released at the beginning of the month have fixed these issues. This is NOT a universal app: This is merely a blown-up, high-definition version of the iPhone app. This app is NOT an iPad app. Do NOT bother installing on an iPad. iPads are NOT phone-less iPhones; nor, are they large iPod Touches. iPad users work almost entirely in LANDSCAPE mode and rarely if ever in portrait, unless forced to do so by a poorly designed app like this one. It is so sad that this app, which used to be beautifully designed for iPad, is now so badly implemented for iPad that it has become unusable. ORIGINAL REVIEW: 2019-04-02 The SCMP app was one of my favorite news apps. It WAS truly worth every bit of FIVE (5) STARS. It is NOW barely worth the ONE (1) STAR the latest update has reduced it to. This update has made the app virtually unusable on iPads. I’d like to say that I could switch to reading the SCMP via a browser, but that will never happen because without receiving iOS notifications, I’d never think to go to the SCMP site. Specifically, the app has been ruined for the iPad. In fact, it appears that the iPad has been completely disregarded in the creation of this new app. As it is now, the app is presented entirely in portrait mode. iPads are NOT phone-less iPhones; nor, are they large iPod Touches. iPad users work almost entirely in LANDSCAPE mode and rarely if ever in portrait, unless forced to do so by a poorly designed app. Here are some lowlights of the update: • new app is PHYSICALLY AWKWARD in portrait mode, and extremely so. • new app is VISUALLY AWKWARD in portrait mode, and extremely so. • moving through the app is cumbersome and complex. • there is no well-populated compact display of multiple articles from which one can make choices. • the vast space of the iPad screen that is available for useful and coherent layout is wasted. • the previous version of this app, in LANDSCAPE mode, was infinitely superior to this latest layout. It is such a shame that the new version of the app has been rendered so useless for iPad users. I will certainly miss reading and sharing articles from the SCMP each and every day has I have always done, until now. Turning away iPad users, means we will no
