very balanced news
I’ve been using scmp for a long time for my Asia/China news and compared to western news org they seem to be the most balanced place. Strongly recommend and subscribing it’s really cheap
Unreliable Subscription
This app provides good quality coverage of Chinese news but the subscription keeps stopping. Logging out and back in doesn’t work, nor does restoring purchases so I have to email support each time this happens. They are slow to respond and so I have lost several weeks of my subscription time.
Great News caster and Great 👍 app
The app
Please stop forcing ads at entry
This app is mediocre but they now ‘force serve’ a banner ad for 5 seconds upon entry - horrible UX only experienced the same with free gaming apps - in a rush to grab more ads revenue SCMP is risking annoying its readers who ‘just want to see the news’. You can’t always display ads inside an article but why force it upon entry??
Trusted news report - shows both side story
The only new report I trust to give a neutral, non sided news report on both hongkong and china. They reasonably show both side of the story. Unlike bbc, cnn etc...
Biased newspaper. Main theme is China Phobia
The main focus of this newspaper is to spread hate regarding China. There are some articles that are non-China bashing but this paper seems to have a deep rooted fetish for demonising China. They should focus more on their own stories internally..
Buggy
The app was working fine until a couple of weeks ago as it becomes very buggy - articles wouldn’t load and the app keeps crashing on my IOS phone. Always like SCMP contents. Really hope the team could look into this.
Fine content, UI to be improved
Excellent, impartial news content on affairs at home and abroad. Rating would be higher if presentation in landscape mode were restored for the iPad, lack of which at the moment is somewhat irritating.
Absolute trash since they revamped the app
SCMP has been going downhill for a while. The editorial has weakened over the past 8-12 months and now the revamped app is appalling. Prior to the update my review is below: A fantastic app, fluid and interactive. SCMP is well known globally, the editorial is great. This app is also fantastic. It's quick and fluid, this is perhaps the most user friendly news app. Works great on IPad and IPhone.
