Clunky app and half-dead social network
It’s nice to see alternatives to Big Tech but Spoutible feels far from primetime. The app is pretty basic, just a thin layer over the website. The activity and groups feels very insular and boomer aged. For some reason the app’s main view is taken up by an ugly word cloud of top terms, and every day — no matter what momentous thing is happening in the world — the top terms are “wordle” and “hello”
Spoutible SM is Home now
Spoutible has great features, well beyond the standard platforms. This was accomplished in record time. But my greatest pleasure is finding an online community that isn't constantly raging on about everything. I feel I get thoughtful points of view from serious people. Active monitoring ot bots and throwing trolls off Spoutible makes for a much more pleasant experience being on social media.
Well that did not last long.
Not safe as claimed. I deleted my account when it became apparent that the TOS were selectively ignored and targetted harassment was being allowed and seemingly encouraged. Drama, drama and more drama. It has turned into another toxic Twitter clone. Sad.
Dystopian nightmare
I was so excited for a new kind of social media where you could express yourself freely and not live in fear of harassment and hate. Sadly, Spoutible ain’t it. I used the website and then app for over a year and saw the true nature of the CEO. He micromanages every issue on the site and attacks users for any criticism or even for just questioning him, putting them on blast to his tens of thousands of followers. I have seen him hold pods, like Twitter spaces, just to badmouth and lie about users. He suspends or bans users for unknown reasons, never telling them or anyone what their infraction was. He is obsessed with the royal family so hope that is your jam. Also, he uses Twitter more than his own website so that tells you something. Spoutible is good for some lols at its CEO, but not for free speech.
Useless
I post memes, nothing derogatory, nothing inflammatory, just funny memes. Sure, everyone’s idea of humor is different, but I certainly never posted anything offensive, but for some reason I try to log in today and my account has been suspended. No email to say why my account has been suspended or the obligatory option to have the decision reviewed. Nope, I just can’t login until the suspension is lifted. I have no use for this app any longer.
Great app great platform
Great platform, no hate or keyboard bullies, just a friendly social media site with the diversity we live with in real life. There’s nothing wrong with being kind and respectful to your fellow human.
Improving
Needs way to block hashtags.
Good concept, ruined by a lack of moderation
I was really rooting for Spoutible when I first signed up, tired of the endless political trolling, racism, misogyny, etc. at Twitter. Over time, however, Spoutible has become stale without any kind of algorithm or any informative larger accounts to liven things up. They seem to do a good job of keeping the bots away, which is nice, but without a basic effort at moderation the site is devolving into groups that attack one another and bring the entire experience back to (just like Twitter) largely blocking accounts just to keep your feed from being a bunch of spats, raging, and bickering. Some accounts appear to have been given carte blanche to harass others without any sort of accountability, which is suspicious given the site’s supposed credo of being a safe space. It became tiresome to observe, and if you’re not into observing the most base, middle school behavior of adults on social media, I’d skip this one. Spoutible is an interesting and noble concept, but human behavior and lack of coherent moderation keep it from achieving its stated goal. Last comment, the app is a mirror of the browser version, so if you’re looking for a true app experience you won’t find it.
The app is excellent the owner less so
I was a usable of the Spoutible app since before it was an app, when it was just a website. I enjoyed going on daily and interacting. The features were excellent and continually improving. However I use the past tense because even though I had been a member for more than a year with a solid A rating I am no longer able to access the platform. I have discovered that I was suspended with no notification or notice or anything because I made the unforgivable mistake of responding to a spout by the owner regarding the media publishing fake or doctored pictures about Kate Middleton. My response was not profane or offensive, here is what I posted approximately- “I’m sorry, I’m out. She is a woman fighting cancer. She is a woman with young children fighting cancer. Let it sink in” - that’s it. He deleted my response, suspended my account and kicked me off a platform on which I had been a member in good standing for over a year. So there you go
Guilt
I’ve been there since last April, and have enjoyed the kinder gentler interaction. However, recently they have started putting in ads. There’s nothing wrong with that because there’s certainly isn’t as many as X.
But there are several people on there that try to make you feel guilty if you’re not giving a lot of money to the site.
Because I’m on a fixed income, I give what I can, but I don’t like the pressure of certain individuals who think they are better than everyone because they were there since the beginning.
