If you invent artificial intelligence, one of its most obvious uses would be to draft, tailor, and personalise cover letters when applying for jobs. So apps like Prep AI—or now Sprout—should get credit for integrating AI into the often mind-numbing task of job searching and writing cover letters. That said, it’s not a great product… at least, not yet.
I use an iPhone 11, which is regularly updated and not that old, yet the app doesn’t always work as it should. For example, I downloaded it on 25th August, and until 9th September, I wasn’t able to upload additional documents apart from my resume, which I found very odd. Even now, one thing I’m still unable to do is change the preferences I set when I first launched the app. I remember it asked what kind of companies I wanted to work in and how soon I was looking to join the workforce. Clearly, the app generates job options based on those responses, but once entered, you can’t change them later—and I find that quite annoying.
Also, the app didn’t make it clear that there were so many subscription plans to choose from. It completely hid the various plan options from me. Now, when I go to my subscriptions in the App Store, I see more than 14 or 15 different plans, which don’t make much sense. I wish they had shown me a few of the options earlier, so I could have made a more informed choice.
