Built on the success of the original 'StaffWars', StaffWars Live offers game play designed to aid students in instrumental practice. Choose your instrument, key signature, scale and note range, then play the notes that appear on the staff with your instrument to destroy them before they damage you clef. Notes get faster with every ten correct and you get three lives.
Press the "Settings" button to change your instrument, scale, key signature and adjustable note range. All notes are in the instruments' written pitch (i.e. Clarinet in C major would be concert Bb Major)
All your scores are saved when exiting the game, so you can track your improvement. Scales include Major, Major Blues, Minor Blues, Chromatic
Need to practice transposition? StaffWars Live has got you covered. All notes are in the instruments’ written pitch, so you can be a french horn player and select ‘Trumpet' to practice transposing to Bb.
Connect any MIDI device to trigger the game with MIDI.
Note range = from 4 Spaces Below to 4 Spaces Above Clef
Start speed adjustable.
***NOTE*** - Make sure your instrument is in tune prior to playing StaffWars Live. Always play with good attacks and good tone. Game sounds may trigger the pitch detection so it is a good idea to turn your iPhone\iPad volume down while playing with the sound turn on.

Great App, Just Really Hard
Okay, okay, yes, this a good app for practicing your notes and getting better, but, once you get over 30, it gets REALLY HARD you try to think what the note is, but, when you found out what the note is, 30 + you already missed a note, and, once you get to 40+ you only get 5 seconds, and it’s really hard to concentrate, this app also made me mentally in pain, and I believe that “ I cannot do this “ and caused me cry, please make this app a LITTLE bit easier, it’ll help a lot. Thanks!
Amazing game
For those who don’t know how to play piano on this, it’s the Trouble Cleff or one of the Cleffs it’s very good to play on the clarinet piano guitar violin. This is my only way of practicing and whenever I forget how to play an instrument of mine, I do this game and then I go to my music book good at the game with this certain instrument of mine.
P.S.for those add haters there’s no ads because it is for learning and only learning music and I really think it’s an amazing game. You guys should really get it. It’s worth the money to.
Best note reading app!
I went from not being able to read music to having familiarity and increasing my speed and fluency in a week. This app, including the original one, are fun and work!
I still have a long way to go, but this app helped me overcome a big hurdle.
Amazing
Definetly worth the money
Staff wars is the best
Staff wars more like Star Wars
Piano teacher
I play correct notes before they reach the clef but the notes still explode at the clef. I named lots of correct notes earlier and the game counted those. I don’t know what to adjust for success. I tried googling for help with no luck! Very frustrating!
So helpful
Helped with sight reading a lot
Sensors Don’t Work
Sensors don’t always detect key
AWESOME APP
This is a very good app. It is fun, but educational. It has helped me keep my notes memorized and has helped me learn new notes as well. It is MUCH better compared to the regular Staff Wars. It tells you what note your playing when you play it, and you can customize it to your instrument and range of notes. I highly recommend it if you’re having trouble keeping your notes memorized or want to learn new ones.
Works with double bass
UPDATE: it DOES work with bass! Select “bass guitar” in settings! Thanks!
Old review: It gets the octave wrong on my double bass, pizzicato. Doesn’t pick up the notes with a bow. Most tuners get it right, so not sure why this is an issue. It would be nice to have an “octave forgiveness” option so that it accounts for software’s misinterpretation of the octave I’m playing
