Description

“Stakeout iCMT” is a handy app that provides functions to help the users perform point stakeout and line stakeout tasks. It will let the user precisely digitize Points, Lines and Areas of interest over the built-in Map. With the help of GPS, the point stakeout function can guide the user to the target Features. The Line Stakeout function will display the distance between the user and a Line or Area, enabling the user to move parallel to or along the target line. This function can be used to stake fence lines or river boundaries. It can be used for laying out long pipelines in undeveloped areas. The users may also import design data based on WGS 84 and LLA coordinate system from Shapefiles or DXF files. They may email the job files, output the Feature data as DXF files or send the Feature data to a PDF file. Please note: Location data depends on the GPS receiver used. Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life. The app will let you easily toggle the built-in GPS on or off. This app comes with a built-in help file. The app creates files for storing user's data. These files are saved in the Documents folder for the app. Users may use iTunes to copy the data files in the File Sharing section to their Mac or PC, and vice versa.

This app is supposed to do exactly what I needed, but unfortunately, it crashes every time you start it up in iOS 8

Unhelpful

I found this App not at all helpful. It did not do what it purported to do. Very disappointing.

Land Stakeout

As a civil engineer I have been looking for a quick reference to find centerline station/offset with cut/fill stakeout. This is the only app that i have found that will do this. I wish that the app could load/export files from a cloud drive or email. Also I wish I could tell the app what station that the line started. I was having trouble with the "path Stake Line function". it would only work if i entered a "from node" close to my "current location." Then the stationing started at that "From node entered" not the beganing of the line, also it is not easy to locate the closest node number to my current location. I had to go to stake out points and change the node number tell the marker showed up on screen, I wish there was a way to pick on screen and it tell me the node numbers. I was able to do this in the Ipad version because the enter node and message info was on the same screen. the iphone version, I would not even try to use fro this in the current version (the 3d polyline I was using had over 3000 nodes) I will be looking forward to the updates that will fix these issues. I am very happy that this app is available and am hopefull that a Waas corected Extertal GPS will help the 10' Error I was encountering today.

Lacking in rudimentary features for any Surveyor or user

As a person who has been in the Land Surveying profession for over 20 years, I have always been on the lookout for the simplest and most efficient way to do a task with the lowest cost. The app makes it impossible to transfer any data to or from your iOS devise without being connected to iTunes. This is a big time waster. The only reason i connect my device to iTunes is to back it up on my own computer. Almost all my apps have the ability to save to Dropbox or a plethora of other apps I have on my device. What would be best for an app like this is to also build in the FTP/web server functionality that even my iOS photo apps have built into them. Then the user could directly connect the iOS device to a server. Even WebDAV would be a plus. The other thing that this app needs is the ability to import and export a basic ASCII or text file format. DXF and Shape files are great for some things, however, I couldn't even find a way to upload the coordinates of my stakeout points from a csv/text file without having to convert it to a DXF. Even the simplest addition of the ability to transfer in/out a GPX file format would be a smart idea. I can think of many situations where this could be a great tool, however, it's weaknesses and clumsy user interface are to great to even consider it a toy. One of these days someone will build an app for iOS that let's you do what you used to be able to do with an old HP48 with a SMI or TDS card...any calc you needed AND the ability to connect to an instrument. An iOS device could be a modern take on that with the built in GNSS and its Bluetooth ability to connect to an external, more accurate GNSS unit. I plan to continue testing the app.
